Lost Update - Season V - 02/25/2009

OK, which one is Radar O'Reiley? You know, from Mash, the TV show about the war in Korea. What, you didn't know that this song was the theme song for MASH? Well, now you know.
We begin tonight dissecting the title of this update and it's lyrics, Suicide Is Painless, because it is very critical to the outcome of Lost. Let us recap what we know up until this episode shall we. John Locke was told by Richard that he must not only leave the island to save the people, but that he also must die. Ben shows Locke the way off the island and the way through time. Later it's revealed that Locke is the one dead in the casket. A suicide note given to Jack seals the deal confirming Locke is dead.
Ok, to the lyrics. First two lines:
Through early morning fog I see,
Visions of the things to be.
John has been flashing back and forth in time and gathering information and realizing what he needs to do. His visions of the things to be.
Third and fourth lines:
The pains that are withheld for me,
I realize and I can see.
Johns pains withheld, well, he can walk, he is healed on the island, and it's for a reason. Locke realizes that he is special, and has a purpose.
Fifth and sixth lines:
That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes.
Suicide is painless. Locke knows by dying he saves the people, the island, and himself. He also understands that in doing so, it will bring on many changes to the people and island of Lost.
Last line:
And I can take or leave it if I please.
Locke has a choice. He can accept his path and go through with his plan, or choose a different course of action. He can take it or leave it.
Now do you all see why my Lost theory is so appealing. It all makes sense. Really it does! Just what is the Grassy Knoll Institutes Lost theory….I hear the choppers coming so here it is real quick like...
Although it appears the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 are on a tropical island, they are being deceived. There is no island. The survivors are in a virtual reality laboratory. All the castaways are interconnected to one another sharing each others thoughts, memories, and feelings. While in this virtual reality laboratory, a battery of physical and mental experiments are performed on them. And who is running these experiments? As Juliet told Sawyer while walking through the jungle, "The Aliens of course."
Think back to the Lost pilot way back in 2004. Remember Locke, after everything settled down. He was by himself, looking out at the ocean, satisfied, calm, at home. Fast forward to season five, this episode, Locke is back where he started. By himself, gazing out a the ocean. He came home.
Yes, yes, Locke came back from the dead and traveled back to the island. Or, he is still dead, but just in the past, or the future. Because Ben told him to leave the island and bring back the Oceanic Six to save the people and island. He turns a wheel, and Ohh snap, he is back on the mainland.
Stop right there! This has gone on far enough. Tonight's episode was all about time travel. And yes, just as almost entire season five has been.
Adding to the above time travel theory, Widmore discusses with Locke that the last time he saw him, it was decades ago, but Locke hasn't aged one bit. But to Locke, it was only a few days ago. Widmore was 17 when he first met Locke. Now he is in his late 60's.
Or when Ben, a much younger looking Ben is seen in the background spying on Locke as he is being driven around town. It appears that either Ben is addicted to time travel, or there are a dozen Ben's running around, all at a different age.
Or when Locke goes to Helen Norwoods grave site. The tombstone said she died in the year 2006. If Locke's plane crashed in September of 2004, and he was on the island for 108 days, then he was in the future when he visited the grave of Helen. Are you seeing my point here?
Look at previous weeks. The island flashes and the castaways blink in and out of time arriving years in the past, and years into the future. In a matter of minutes. But not everyone follows. Some like Jin travel at different speeds, and takes a while to catch up to the rest.
The writers of Lost are leading the viewers down the proverbial rabbit hole. But we aren't going to find Alice. (Don't even think about asking her, she doesn't really know even if the song says she does) Or Wonderland, that improbable reality inhabited by outlandish people. Instead, we will find a dead end with no answers from the writing staff. Just more questions. Why, because it's subterfuge. The writers are hiding the real story line. The real plot line. My story line. My plot line.
Damn, I'm arrogant. And perhaps a fool. At least I know it. Seriously, remember when the writers said at the get go that Lost will be explained in a way that is physically real. Something that isn't impossible. Something that you can see, feel, grasp a hold of, understand. They are leading you to a conclusion that time travel is the Lost Secret, and that Ben, Richard, Desmond, Widmore, or Faraday, or all of the castaways, are manipulating time like changing the channel on a television set.
BTW, want to know what all those math equations on the chalk boards you see on Lost. It's Einstein's Special Theory Of Relativity. Everyone knows Einstein's theory of special relativity concerning time travel. If you don't, here is the link. I suggest you read it now before you go any further. Notice that certain castaways experience Time Dilation. Richard Alpert for one. John Locke another. (You did follow the link and read about the relativity theory didn't you?)
Some also experience Relativity of simultaneity. This explains all the time shifting of the island, and the castaways experiencing multiple events happening at the same time.
Don't forget about Composition of velocities. Remember Faraday conducting his rocket experiment last season. It took like 38 minutes to reach the island when it should have only taken a minute.
But I have a problem with this Lost theory. I point to the Grandfather Paradox in time travel. Meaning, say you did have a time machine that really worked. And you went back to the past. And you murdered your grandfather. In doing so, that means you were never born. So, how could you go back in a time machine and murder your grandfather if you were never born? Exactly!!!
So, if Ben went back in time and murdered people, altering the past, then he also alters the future (And we know he has done this) and opens a paradox.
Or, we can believe in the virtual reality theory. Imagine the freedom you could possess in virtual reality. How many countless lives you could have. Countless scenario's. And you play every single scenario out. When the end game arrives, (You die, win, lose) you merely reset and start fresh from the beginning. Remember, in my virtual reality theory, each castaway is connected to one another yet can be miles away, or years in the past, or future, from one another.
This is a more plausible theory than the messy paradox time travel. I am just waiting for Doc Brown to come crashing through the jungle in his Delorean yelling that he has to get back to the future. Remember his explanation on the chalk board to Marty, about the split time continuum, and that he and Marty are now living in a parallel universe and that they must go back to the past to fix the future? Doc's dog was Einstein BTW.
Tidbits from tonight's episode:
* Ben always lies. He is not there to help and protect the castaways.
* Locke is back on the mainland. And he is not crippled. Apparently the island's healing powers have a far reach.
* Widmore told Ben he was exiled, expelled by "Him!" Sort of has that Lucifer feel when he was expelled from heaven by God. '
* The others are Widmore's people.
* Staying on the Lucifer topic. Ben is seen in that light as of lately. The religion play is picking up on Lost.
