My ABC Lost Theory Was Correct After All

I remember May 23rd, 2010, late evening, the waning moments of the six-year sojourn of what was the finale episode of ABC's Lost series flickering away. Christian Sheppard gathered the castaways in the church, their special place to find each other, and guided them into the light right before a tearful and joyous reunion of the castaways that mattered most to Jack. Damn it all to Hell, they were all in Purgatory. My Lost theory of Virtual reality with a dash of alien intervention was shattered. Or was it?

Just what was the Grassy Knoll Institutes Lost theory…. For six years it was…..
Although it appeared the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 were on a tropical island, they were being deceived. There was no island. The survivors were in a virtual reality laboratory. All the castaways were interconnected to one another sharing each others thoughts, memories, and feelings. While in this virtual reality laboratory, a battery of physical and mental experiments were performed on them. Who was running these experiments? As Juliet stated, the Aliens of course.

That evening I fired off my Lost Series Finale Theory, begrudgingly accepting that my theory was not only flawed, but down right incorrect. Until some months later when a new wrinkle of my Lost theory would come to light.

You see, although I recorded the series finale, I had put off viewing it until just last night. (Anger can do that sometimes) And there it was, the Holy Grail, my missing link, looking me square in the face. After watching the entire show from beginning to end from my DVR, the very last scene before the screen went dark made me ask this question.

Why did ABC Lost show the wreckage of flight 815 during the credits? With no survivors! Nor a single shred of evidence that there ever were any survivors. Just wreckage. No foot prints. No makeshift huts. No clothing. No tools. No bodies. No people. Nothing. (The network claims that these scenes were placed to decompress the audience from such an emotional roller coaster that was the finale before the local news came on.) (However, the Grassy Knoll Institute has an alternate explanation)

That is when it occurred to me that my virtual reality theory was correct after all. Wait for it readers... Perhaps these fleeting images signified that no one survived the plane crash and the entire series never happened. Or... The reason there are no bodies or any sign of survivors is because the castaways are still in the VR chamber.

You see, in reality, the castaways were never on the island, never got on flight 815, never crashed. Instead, they were secretly ushered into a VR lab where unspeakable experiments were performed on them. The castaways were put through the paces time and time again until a favorable outcome was achieved. Perhaps Jack and his crew finally got it right this time, Jack giving in to the island mystique, creating the end game, the church scene.

Remember the season five finale, when Jacob and the Man in black were talking on the beach. It was the VR experiment they were discussing. How no matter what they did, no matter what obstacles placed in the castaways path, the result was always the same. They were both waiting for a unique outcome, the church scene.
MIB: You’re still trying to prove me wrong.
Jacob: You are wrong!
MIB: They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.
Jacob: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that, it’s just progress.

If you can remember, I stated that the VR experiment would reset itself after an unfavorable outcome. Hence, Miles, Ben, and Desmond, remembered fragments of past scenario's giving them the ability to predict the future. This also easily explains the time travel scenario of the castaways on the island living in the 50's, 70's, and present time. These were merely new variables and parameters of the experiment.

In essence my dear readers, the Lost castaways did not crash, did not get on the plane, did not die, nor went to heaven. Instead, they were reset to begin yet another battery of tests. Perhaps we will get lucky enough to see these new tests come to light, in say, a 2011-2012 Lost movie or mini series expanding on what happened right after the church scene in the finale.

I feel better now....

Yesterday morning I was greeted by a knock at the door at the secret lair offices of the Grassy Knoll Institute. I opened the door to find a large strong box at my feet. Looking up I caught a glimpse of a white colored courier truck turning the corner scurrying out of sight. I carried the box inside.

Upon inspection, the address label was from Culver City, California. I fetched my wire cutters and opened the strong box. It was air tight and a whoosh of air pushed out. The contents were concealed by shredded straw. It reminded me of the scene from A Christmas Story, the part where the old man won a major award and it was delivered in a huge wooden crate marked FRAGILE! I thrashed through the straw to reveal the treasure inside.

I was rewarded a moment later as my fingers found several round metallic objects amidst the straw. I gently lifted and removed one of the objects from the box and placed it on the table next to me. It appeared to be a film canister. The film was dated 2007, and emblazoned on the side was printed, Property of Touchstone Television, a now defunct production company. Opening the canister revealed an almost pristine condition film. Written on the canister itself was an inscription; ABC Lost Finale Arc – J.J.A. adaptation, After The Church sequel. (This was very Mr. Chang like from Dharma Institute showing a black and white film)

Attached to the top of the reel was a cryptic note addressed to the Curator of the Grassy Knoll Institute. The contents of the letter suggested that I view the films enclosed and continue my Lost updates as I had the past six seasons. There was no reason why I should, but I suspected viewing the films would shed some light.
I admit, I was intrigued by this find. However, being a dedicated Lost fan, I knew that the Disney Studio Company produced LOST under the ABC Television Studio moniker. Hence, this was merely an elaborate hoax. Or was it.

My curiosity piqued, I went to the basement closet for my film projector and screen. I dusted them off and brought them to the media room. I threaded the film and hooked the projector to the sound system and clicked the play button. The best case scenario, I was expecting to see out takes and bloopers from the past six seasons and maybe even a snippet or two of a story arc not fleshed out. Perhaps a hint at alien involvement and virtual reality. Why else would I have received this case? Instead, what I saw was astounding!

I immediately summoned the Grassy Knoll Institute executive staff to the board room to evaluate this particular discovery. We decided to investigate these mysterious films in detail. We started with the origin of the films. We discovered that Touchstone Television was absorbed by Disney Studio in 2007 and then later renamed ABC Studio’s, which was the official production company of Lost. Furthermore, after watching the first of four episodes (Titled The Seed) we came to the conclusion that what we now had in our possession were original storyboard episodes slated to be Lost’s series finale sequel arc. The euphoria we were feeling was on the same level Indiana Jones must have had when finally finding the Lost Arc of the Covenant.

Apparently, these Lost sequel episodes were pardon the pun, Lost in the sea of production crews and editing during the selling and buying of the Touchstone Television production company. The format of the films were in story book fashion, (Art work panels of scenes, characters, for each scene) with a narrator explaining the scene and dialog for each character.

The consensus of the executive team was unanimous, (Except Gumby, who abstained,) to forge ahead and critique these found Lost episodes and update them every week.

ABC Lost Sequel Part One Found Here titled: The Seed.

ABC Lost Sequel - After the Gold Rush - Finale

ABC Lost Sequel - Episode Four - After The Gold Rush
ABC Lost Sequel - Episode Four - After The Gold Rush
Previously On Lost:
Jack: “Whoa, whoa, Desmond. Are you saying we’re stuck in some type of Star Trek time warp?”
A voice from outside the cage: “That’s right Jack.”
The group turns to see Ben Linus outside the cage.
Ben continues: “Hello Jack, I told you the island wasn’t done with you yet!” Linus is smiling as he speaks.
Jack goes crazy with rage, he smashes against the cage doors screaming at Ben, “What the Hell are you doing to us? Where is my father? Why are we back on this island? What purpose do we serve here?”
Ben to Jack: “Jack, your father is dead. He was always a figment of your imagination. In fact, everyone you knew or thought you knew from your past is dead. They no longer exist Jack.”
Jack: Do you really expect us to believe you, after all the lies you told?”
Ben to Jack: No Jack,… I expect you to die. I always wanted to say that!” (In his best sarcastic tone)

SCENE CHANGE:

Jack has calmed down a bit as Kate tries to sooth him anger. Ethan arrives, whispers into Ben's ear and they have an unheard conversation. Miles overhears something about the Prometheus and a wheel. The group has no idea except Daniel.
Ben Linus calls out to Goodwin, who is standing with a group of men just a few yards from the bear cage, "Please turn the music off, there is no need for psychological conditioning anymore. That dog just won't hunt no more. It's time to tell the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 why they are back on the island."

Boone retorts that is the second time today someone told them that. Ben completely ignores Boone, and then offers the castaways freedom if they can behave in a civilized manner.
Ben states: "Jack, everyone, we really do need to talk. You may not realize it, but I am saving your lives. I've done it before, but this is the last time. The island isn't what you think it is. Please, come with me to my headquarters, where we can converse in a secure atmosphere."
Jack: "And if we decline?"
Ben: "I insist!"
Tom Friendly smiles and readies his rifle. Ben holds his hand up to Tom, and says, "Tom, no need for that. Where are they going to go?"
Tom unlocks the cage and the castaways file out and follow Ben and his men. A few meters from Ben, Sawyer and Juliet lie in ambush. Their plan is thwarted as a rifle is nudged into Sawyer's back and he hears the sound of a trigger being pulled back.
Sawyer: "Son-of-a-bitch!"

SCENE CHANGE:

Ben is very cordial, he smiles at James and Juliet.
Ben: "It's truly good to see you again Juliet. And, Ah, Hello James. You should let John Locke do the tracking from now on."
Sawyer: "OK Gunda Din!"
The group marches for an hour and comes to a mountain face. Brush and vines are pulled away to reveal a secret entrance to an island station. It's marking on the outside is in Greek lettering, Daniel translates the words, "Sisyphus Station." Daniel groans, "Oh no, I was wrong!"

Ben walks in first and lights and equipment turn on as he walks down the corridor. They pass what looks to be the infamous room 23. They continue walking deep into the station, into the mountain. At the end of one of the corridors is a door. Ben opens the door to reveal a large conference room complete with table, chairs, television monitor, file cabinets, over head projector, and white boards hanging on the walls.
Ben turns and asks every to, "Please sit, make yourself comfortable."

SCENE CHANGE:

The castaways all take a seat. Linus goes to the file cabinet and pulls out about a dozen files. He sits down and flips open the top file.
Ben: "I was hoping that Jacob could be here to help relieve some of the confusion but we all know what Charles Widmore did this morning. So, I will begin by telling you that Jacob visited each and every one of you when you were children. I think most of you remember this visit, some may not.
Sawyer: "Wait a minute, you're telling me Jacob, who doesn't look a day over 40, visited me 30 years ago? How is that possible Mr. Wizard?"
Ben: "What Widmore didn't tell you, the island has a very special property. While you are on the island, you do not age. However, a caveat also awaits."
John: "Is that why Richard never aged?"
Ben: "Yes, John. And you as well. And me."
Jack: "How is this possible, the island having magical properties. We've only been here 108 days, of course we haven't aged. Nobody has."
Ben: Smirks, "Jack, that is what I'm trying to tell you. If you would please let me finish."

Ben: "Jacob had a purpose for visiting you. You were all candidates. One in thousands of candidates. As the years passed, many of the candidates fell out of favor with our program. You were part of the 84 selected. oceanic Flight 815 never crashed. We needed a back story, and the plane crash was the perfect scenario, the perfect cover. On the mainland, authorities and the NTSB investigation found the downed plane in deep water. All the passengers were strapped in and all souls were considered lost. You were now all officially dead.
Kate interrupts: "How did you know we would all be on that plane. What if we didn't make it. what then?"
Ben: "Jacob was very persuasive and manipulative. He planted the correct seeds and offered the best case scenario for each and every one of you. The rest was easy."

SCENE CHANGE:

The conference room door opens and Goodwin walks in and immediately goes to Ben. Goodwin whispers in his ear for a few seconds and Ben stands and announces to the group, "Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, I have some pressing island business to attend to." Ben calls out for Ethan and seconds later Ethan walks into the room.
Ben: "Ethan, please entertain our guests until I return." Ben and Goodwin head toward the door, Ben stops, turns to the group and says, "My good people, this station is the only safe haven from the smoke monster. Please do not leave the station walls. We cannot afford to lose any more of you."

As Ben and Goodwin walk down the stations corridor, Goodwin asks about smokey, "I thought you turned that program off?" Ben says, "I did Goodwin, but they don't know that now do they?"
Ben to Goodwin: "Did you retrieve everyone?"
Goodwin: "No, Alpert is still missing!"
Ben: "Find him!"

SCENE CHANGE:

Ben gathers his men and heads back to Dharmaville. Widmore's men are casually deployed inside the camp. In a brutal attack, Widmore's men are massacred by Ben's team. Widmore is not dead, only wounded. When the situation is secured, Ben descends dow the hill and into camp. he approaches Widmore, stops and kneels close to him.
Ben: "Remember when I said I would murder your daughter Penny for payback on your men killing my daughter Alex? I lied Charles!"
Linus aims his pistol and shoots Widmore at point-blank range in the head and several times in the chest. Ben laments, "That's for Alex YOU SON OF A BITCH!"
Ben to his men: "Gather up our other guests, bring them back to the Prometheus station right away."
Ben looks back at the lifeless body of Charles Widmore and states, "May God have mercy on your soul.... And mine."

SCENE CHANGE:

Back at the Prometheus station, the castaways have questions for Ethan hoping to gather some needed intel on their situation.
Jack to Ethan: "Ethan, I know you were dead. How can you be here now. How can all of us be here now?"
Ethan: "Jack, You're dead! We're all dead! My God, haven't you figured this out by now?"
Sawyer: "Well now I've heard everything. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. We're all dead. What are we, in some sort of way station, in some sort of Purgatory waiting for Christmas bells so Ethan here can earn his Angel wings! Hell, being abducted by aliens and put in a virtual reality chamber is a better explanation than Purgatory!"
Ethan: "Ask your man Desmond. He knows. He'll tell you. I don't know why he hasn't already."

SCENE CHANGE:

Ethan sees a red light blinking on the monitor board and excuses himself. Guards are right outside the door. The castaways are alone. John turns to Desmond looking for information.
Desmond: "We are not dead! I assure you of that. I do not know all the facts, but we're alive."
Daniel: "Desmond, my experiments on the island, they were confusing to me. On the island, it appeared that time was irrelevant, that it didn't exist. But right off shore on the freighter, time was passing normally. Do you know anything about this? Why time is not moving?"
Desmond: "I know that I have been repeating certain events. I know I've been to the church before. Saved Charlie's life many times. I've found Penny many times. And many times I didn't. It's like I'm given as many chances as i need to get things right, but something goes wrong every time, and I wake up and start all over again."
Daniel: "Yes Desmond. Yes. A loop. The Sisyphus effect!"
Miles: "Can I buy a vowel here. What the Hell is the Sisyphus effect?"
Daniel: "In Roman mythology, Sisyphus was a wise king punished by the Gods for smiting them. As punishment, he was compelled to roll a huge stone up to the top of a mountain. When he reached the plateau, the stone rolled back down to the bottom. He then had to start at the bottom and roll the stone back up and repeat this loop for all eternity."
Boone: "So we're back in Roman times, we're all smited by the Gods. Destined to repeat this over and over forever?"
Desmond: "No, something is different this time. I can feel it. This isn't how it started last time."
John: "Then that's a good thing. Maybe we have the edge on Ben. Maybe he doesn't know what's going to happen next. We may have the element of surprise."

SCENE CHANGE:

Ben Linus has returned to the Prometheus station with more guests. The remaining castaways had been rounded up and led to the station. Ben asks the 7 members already there to join them in the larger meeting room further inside the station. Hugs and kisses from all the castaways and secretly exchanged information among the themselves.

The survivors are as follows: Jack and Kate, Jin and Sun, Sawyer and Juliet, Sayid and Shannon, Charlie and Claire, Hurley and Libby, Bernard and Rose, Daniel and Charlotte, John Locke, Ana Lucia, Frank Lapedus, Cindy, Miles, Mr. Eko, Michael and Walt, Dr. Leslie Artz, Nikki, Ilana, Boone, Naomi, and Desmond.

Desmond looks frantically for Penny, but doesn't see her.
Ben to Desmond: "As an act of good faith, (As he motions to his guard) your journey is over my friend." (Penny comes through the door and sees Desmond and runs to him. They embrace and cry in each other's arms.)
Sayid silently speaks to Jack and Sawyer while the reunion hugs are in progress: "Linus is insane. We must act now why we have the numbers. It may be too late if we don't act now."
Sawyer: "We don't stand a chance with no guns and those goons armed to the teeth."

SCENE CHANGE:

Linus makes his way to the front of the room, breaks open the files once again and asks for everyone's attention. The castaways slowly gather and take seats. Sayid notices that there are only two guards inside the room. Linus begins to talk again.
Ben: "For those that were not here earlier, I'll let the others catch you up. As I was saying, Jacob visited all of you in the past to evaluate your worth as a candidate. Congratulations, you all made it."
Ana Lucia: "Just what made us candidates and how did we pass the mustard?"
Ben: "There were many criteria but three main factors were focused on. One, the candidate had no entangling alliances. Nothing to go back to. Second, personality and fortitude were tested. Life on an island would be harsh sometimes. We needed to know if you could survive the stress. And last, each candidate wanted a chance at redemption. Each of you fits the criteria. For all those wondering, the list of names you were so worried about was simply the list of candidates."

SCENE CHANGE:

The camera pans to the castaways as Ben keeps talking. Sawyer is on the right side of the room and Sayid on the left while Jack is front and center. In unison, all three leap to their feet and charge the armed guards. Both guards are quickly subdued as Jack is racing towards Linus. Linus sees the attack and quickly pushes a concealed panel on the wall and makes his escape.

Jack and Locke follow through the panel in pursuit of Linus. Down the corridor Linus disappears. Locke and Jack search the station.

On the other side of the station, Sayid is interrogating the captured guard. After several minutes of Sayid's unique methods, the guard reveals the information Sayid was seeking.
Sayid: "One more time, Where is Widmore and his men stationed?"
Guard: "They are all dead! Linus had them killed. He shot Widmore himself at point-blank range."
Sayid: "How many men does Linus have?"
Guard: "18 men including me. We were all for hire."
Sayid: "Why did Linus bring us here?"
Guard: "I do not know. We were hired for security."
Sayid: "How long have you been here on the island?"
Guard: "Just over three months."

SCENE CHANGE:

Sawyer is running down the station corridor. He is armed with a machine gun taken from the guard he over powered. He turns the corner and spies Linus.
Sawyer: "Hold up there running man."
Linus: "Do you know what you're doing James?"
Sawyer: "I don't do requests! Hands up Linus!"
Sawyer marches Linus outside into the corridor and returns to the conference room.

SCENE CHANGE:

The castaways have barricaded themselves in the conference room. All the camera's are switched on sweeping the station. The outside camera picks up the soldiers exiting the station. They are either retreating or fleeing.
Jack grabs Ben and demands what the soldiers are doing.
Ben: "It's the contingency plan. If the station was compromised, they were to fall back to the temple and regroup in the secret chamber and await instruction from me."
Ben continues: "I can control them, I can make them do whatever you want Jack. Just let me talk to them."
The camera picks the soldiers up inside the temple. They reach the secret compartment and seal the door.
Boone: "If we let him talk to them we're all dead."
Ben makes a run for the control board. He pushes a button just as Sawyer and Sayid catch up to him. Sawyer busts Ben's nose with the butt end of his gun. He crumbles to the ground bleeding.
Juliet screams, "Look at the monitor. What has he done?"
The temple compartment fills with gas killing the soldiers almost instantly.
Jack loses it and begins to wail on Linus. Linus takes a beating with broken teeth and black eyes. He is groaning on the floor.

SCENE CHANGE:

Jack regains his composure, leaves Linus on the floor in a pool of blood. He declares that it's time to get off this island once and for all. everyone agree's and they begin to leave. As they reach the exit to the Prometheus station, Linus catches up to the castaways and pleads for them to stop.

Ben to the group: "Jack, there is no going back. I implemented the end game scenario. You can never return home!"
Sawyer: "And why the Hell not?"
Ben: "Widmore didn't tell you everything about the electromagnetic shield protecting the island. The discharge has a unique wondrous by-product we never envisioned. Once the shield was activated and the pulse expelled into the atmosphere, it created a time space temporal event. Inside the bubble, on the island, time stands still. Outside the bubble, time marches on."
Sawyer: "Bull..." You're just a con man full of lies."
Daniel: "No wait. That explains why Ben and Jacob visited us in the past and not aged after 25-30 years. When they left the island for short periods of time, they aged. When they arrived back on the island, time stopped."
Hurley: "That's why Jacob didn't want us to ever leave the island."
Jin: "I think Linus is lying to us. Look at your beard Jack. If time stands still here, why is your beard still growing?"
Ben: "Because the time loop resets itself. That was Desmond's job. Widmore brought him to the island to evaluate if he was worthy of Penny. Desmond was to reset the electromagnetic pulse every 108 days. When the pulse was reset, the island reset as well, going back in time 108 days. The inhabitants on the island would then relive the next 108 days as if they just arrived with no memory of previous events."
Jack: "If we forget everything that happened, then how do you know this? How do YOU remember events and we don't?"
Ben: "Before the pulse was activated, there were only four people on the island. Charles, Eloise, Desmond, and myself. We didn't realize we had created the temporal loop until 108 days later when all the construction we had done, clearing the jungle, erecting more cabins, vanished. We were left with what we had before the pulse. The sky went pink, the ground shook, and the work crews believed they had just arrived for work. This went on for several more loops before Charles took the sub to the mainland to investigate."
Daniel: "Jack, it makes sense. My readings were pointing to this scenario."
Charlie: "Guys, how long have we been going through this loop?"
Ben: 'When Charles returned, he confirmed our belief. The mainland advanced almost a full calendar year why we aged only 108 days. That is why your beard grows Jack. You only age 108 days!"

SCENE CHANGE:

Sayid is agitated. He comes front and center, gun in hand, confronts Linus and point-blank asks him, "You still haven't told us why we are here, why we are candidates, and for what purpose, and why we cannot leave. I want an answer now or I will shoot you."
Ben: "You're not going to like what I have to tell you but it's fact. You have to believe me."
Sawyer rolls his eyes.
Ben: "On September 22nd, 2004, most of you were brought here to the island. It was the 108 day reset cycle. Your plane crash was an elaborate hoax. You boarded the plane but were anesthetized and then removed from the plane and safely transported here. The plane then took off bound for Los Angeles. Our pilot, Widmore's employee, turned off his tracking beacon and crashed the plane in the ocean several thousand miles off course. A rescue boat picked him up at a rendezvous point. The crash was staged, media coverage showed the plane in deep water at the bottom of the ocean. Being so deep, rescue crews could not submerge that deep and the robotic search submarine filmed the bodies still strapped in their seats. You were the seeds of the island. The new life. The chosen ones. The candidates."

Ben: "In March of 2007, fighting broke out along the Iranian border. The bible was correct. The Anti-Christ would come from the East and bring terror to the land and sky. The fighting quickly escalated. We are not sure about the next events, but nuclear missiles were deployed and detonated across the globe. The United States, China, Russia, and all of Europe was consumed in a nuclear holocaust. In three months, half the world's population was dead. Six months later, the planet was dead. Total extinction. Except perhaps for a few well shielded bunkers scattered across the globe."

Ben: "Widmore was in one of these bunkers when the war broke out. He fled on his freighter and the protective shield allowed him to dock on hydra island with Penny and Eloise and his crew. He began his attempt to regain control of my island but I had prevailed."

SCENE CHANGE:

The castaways are horrified. They wonder if they should believe what Ben has just told them. Jack of course was the doubting Thomas of the bunch.
Jack: "Well, I don't want to stay here. I want off this island. I'll take the sub and make my way on the mainland."
Ben: "The island is all that you have left Jack. It's all any of us have left. The Earth is destroyed. There aren't any tree's, plants, birds, animals. The cities have been destroyed. I saved every one of you from this terrible fate. That is why you are here on this island."
Sawyer: "I ain't calling you Noah Linus!"

Ben: "If you leave this island now, you will only find hardship. It will be a struggle just to survive. The radiation levels contaminated the rivers, oceans, and soil. Nothing is going to grow on the Earth. I offer you a paradise here on my island. We can all live in peace and harmony like the good book intended."

SCENE CHANGE:

Ben senses hostility, anger, resentment, and asks everyone to return to the station control room. He wants to show everyone the carnage that happened. they group agrees. Sayid has several castaways stand guard.

Inside the control room, Ben turns on the monitors and turns on the monitors. News broadcasts begin playing reporting that nuclear war has begun and mankind is on the verse of extinction. One news reel shows New York City reduced to rubble. Another shows Paris in flames. Each monitor reveals a major city across the globe obliterated. Anarchy reigns supreme as governments break down. Military forces reduced to rogue units preying on the less fortunate. The last report is a remote camera, showing no more movement in the major cities. The power eventually is consumed and the camera flickers to darkness.

Ben: "Four months ago, Desmond and I went back to the mainland to check the radiation levels. Our Dharma shark that we released was still alive and the levels are within human tolerance."
Leslie Artz: "If what you say is true, a nuclear war, the radiation levels would stay deadly for hundreds of years. What you say cannot be true Ben. The laws of nuclear physics come into play here.'
Ben: "Yes Leslie. It does take hundreds of years for the radiation to dissipate. In fact, it took 521 years. Today is September 22nd, in the year 2525!"
Charlie sings the Zager and Evans 1969 tune: "If man is still alive, if woman can survive, they may find..."

SCENE CHANGE:

The castaways are in a state of shock. No one is keeping an eye on Ben. Not even Sayid. Ben continues his speech.
Ben: "We knew that war was imminent, we prepared for it. That is why we constructed our shield. It's also why we created the Dharma Initiative. One of their priorities was to mass produce non perishable foodstuff. Canned food, flour, corn meal, baking goods, dried fruits and vegetables. We have a warehouse full of supplies enough to last us for years until we grow our own food."

Rose speaks out: "But aren't we just going to go back in time 108 days when the island resets. All the progress we made will be erased."
Ben: "Rose, not anymore. I told you Desmond was the key to our survival. The day before he was to reset the pulse, I drugged him and tied him to the chair in the station. I planted a fake bomb under his chair knowing that he would be rescued by Locke. With Desmond failing to enter the code, the island pulse ran out of energy, and the island did not reset. We are living in the present. This is humankinds shot at redemption."

Cue the Lost Logo and bring up the volume to Neil Young's After the Gold Rush tune.

Well, I dreamed I saw the knights in armor coming
Sayin' something about a queen
There were peasants singin' and drummers drumming
And the archer split the tree
There was a fanfare blowin' to the sun
That floated on the breeze
Look at mother nature on the run in the nineteen seventies
Look at mother nature on the run in the nineteen seventies

I was lyin' in a burned out basement
With a full moon in my eyes
I was hopin' for a replacement
When the sun burst through the skies
There was a band playin' in my head
And I felt like getting high
Thinkin' about what a friend had said,
I was hopin' it was a lie
Thinkin' about what a friend had said,
I was hopin' it was a lie

Well, I dreamed I saw the silver spaceships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun
There were children crying and colors flying
All around the chosen ones
All in a dream, all in a dream

Flyin' mother nature's silver seed
To a new home in the sun

SCENE CHANGE:

There is a clearing in the jungle. A place that looks all to familiar. It looks like where Jacob's old cabin once stood. As the camera follows along the trail, it reveals a little stone church. There are several castaways walking toward the church. The camera pans to the inside revealing it decorated for a wedding. Hurley pops his head out the church door and sees Ben sitting on a bench at the entrance.
Hurley to Ben: "Hey dude! Aren't you coming in. Everyone is here."
Ben: "No Hugo, I think I'll just sit out here for awhile.'
Hurley smiles, winks at Ben and walks inside.

Mr. Eko is standing atop the altar and Leslie Artz begins the wedding march tune on the organ. Jack enters from the side door and walks to the altar. The back door of the church opens and We see Kate dressed in a white wedding dress. She slowly walks the aisle towards Jack.
Mr. Eko: "Shall we begin..."
The castaways are all smiling, some crying with joy as Jack and Kate are finally together.

SCENE CHANGE:

The decompression stage.
It's September 22nd, 2528, three years after the electromagnetic shield was disabled. The camera shows Dharmaville, a little more modernized as the castaways have spruced it up over the past three years. A Van Morrison tune, Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, is playing softly in the back ground.

The camera pans to a cabin, it's Jack and Kate's cabin. On the porch awning, a wooden sign with the words THE DOCTOR IS "REALLY" IN is burned in to=he wooden sign. Both are sitting on the porch enjoying the day.

the camera moves to Sawyer walking down the path. He waves to Jack and Kate, his neighbors, and walks in his cabin. Juliet is in the kitchen, behind the counter. She is baking muffins. She steps from behind the counter to reveal her pregnant belly. She hugs and kisses James. She asks James if he has decided on a name yet. Sawyer answers, "Bill, or George, anything but Ben!"

The camera leaves the village and shows Rose and Bernard back at their private cabin, warming up some soup.

Jin is fishing down at the beach, the camera pans out to reveal Sun walking along the shore, the camera zooms out more to reveal their baby girl running in the sand, smiling and laughing. Jin hooks a fish, gives a hearty ho ho and turns to Sun and smiles.

John Locke is behind his cabin, in a make shift work shop. He is running a lathe. Charlie walks in and asks him if its ready. John holds up the baby crib and says, almost. Claire walks in the work shop looking very pregnant. She smiles at John and Charlie.

Hurley and Libby are in a clearing, practicing yoga. Hurley has slimmed down.

Leslie Artz has collected all the books on the island to preserve history and to some day teach the children born on the island.

Michael and Walt, are seen constructing a boat. A fishing boat. Both are smiling and have bonded as father and son.

Ben, sitting atop the mountain looking down upon Dharmaville, a wry smile on his face, clears his throat, turns around as if to look if someone is there, and says into the camera, "Perhaps it's time for a new man in charge!"

Sayid and Shannon are walking on the beach. Sayid is fiddling with a walkie-talkie. Shannon looks at him and says, "It's hard to put the past behind you isn't it." Sayid answers, "Yes," smiles, and is ready to toss it back into the sea. Shannon tells him to do it. "Leave it behind. We don't need saving anymore. We have each other." Sayid looks one more time at the walkie-talkie, then back at Shannon, and laughs, drops the device in the sand and continues walking along the shoreline. As they get a bit further down the shore, the walkie-talkie squeaks, and a familiar voice comes on speaking French,

Please help me,
I'm alone now, Please someone come,
The others, they're all dead.
It killed them,
It killed them all.....

Lost Update - Series Finale - The Long And Winding Road

Lost Series Finale - 05/23/10
ABC Lost Secrets – Virtual Reality – Alternate Reality

Lost Update - Series Finale - 05/23/2010

The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to you door

The wild and windy night
That the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears
Crying for the day
Why leave me standing here
Let me know the way

Many times I've been alone
And many times I've cried
Any way you'll never know
The many ways I've tried

And still they lead me back
To the long winding road
You left me standing here
A long long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here
Lead me to your door

But still they lead me back
To the long winding road
You left me standing here
A long long time ago
Don't keep me waiting here
Lead me to your door
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...

I chose the Beatles song The Long And Winding Road as the Lost series finale title for several reasons. In 1969 and 1970, the Beatles imploded, the band split up and their final two albums were in peril of not getting completed. (Some speculate that Yoko Ono was a main conduit in their demise much like MIB was to the Lost candidates) The original code name for the follow up to the White Album was "Get Back." However, the project fizzled after several tracks were laid down and the Beatles were close to folding.

In the end, the Fab Four pulled it together, (Much like the Lost candidates) and released the Abbey Road album in 1969 and the Let it Be album in 1970. It was released in May of 1970, perhaps the same time the Dharma Institute first landed on the Lost island and set up camp. Let It Be was supposed to be released before Abbey road but as discussed above, it was part of the Get Back project and was shelved for a time. Almost as if the album time traveled to the future.

The lyrics itself of The Long And Winding Road speak of a love story with heartache always leading back to the beginning. And like my Lost theory, it began with the pilot episode and after a long and winding six seasons, we're finally at the end of our journey.

Just what was the Grassy Knoll Institutes Lost theory….It's finally time to reveal all...
Although it appears the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 are on a tropical island, they are being deceived. There is no island. The survivors are in a virtual reality laboratory. All the castaways are interconnected to one another sharing each others thoughts, memories, and feelings. While in this virtual reality laboratory, a battery of physical and mental experiments are performed on them. And who is running these experiments? As Juliet stated at the season three finale, the Aliens of course.

Wow, what a finale. This is going to be a short and sweet update. I am only going to state a few things here and pretty much like the Lost writers did, let you decide what just happened. Maybe Kimmel live will be able to shed more light (Pun intended) on what really happened on Lost.

First and foremost, I want to thank all those who have followed my blog during the past six seasons. I hope you have enjoyed the past six years as much as I did. From the get go, I announced my theory, virtual reality, and proceeded to prove the theory week in and week out. In the same breath, I also stated that I had a one in a million chance of being correct. At least I was correct on that. :D

When I started writing this, I was going to point out what Christian said to his son, "This is a place you all made together so you could find one another." I think I could make the argument that they all had the same shared experience, all experiencing the same scenario at the same time, and perhaps that would explain my virtual reality theory. However, I don't think so. The way the show ended, all in the church, all reunited and happy, with the good Shepherd (Christian) leading them into the light, it was all about redemption and love.

Before I turn this over to the commenters just waiting to say, YOU'RE WRONG DUDE, I TOLD YOU SO. ETC. I'll leave you all with a line from my favorite band, the Beatles, that sums up the entire Lost series in one simple line.

And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love, you make...

Lost Update: This Is The End?

ABC Lost Theory
ABC Lost Theory

Lost Update - Season Six - 05/18/2010

Preamble:

Tonight is the last update before the two and a half hour series finale airing Sunday night May 23rd. Before we delve into this last Lost update, I need to address several key elements of the entire Lost phenomenon spanning the past six years.

ABC Lost was the first television program to incorporate and utilize the World Wide Web to advertise and entice millions of viewers. The interaction between the online world and Lost was a huge success. Just type in Lost secrets in your web browser and look at the results. Million upon millions of web pages dedicated to the series.

And those tricky bastards at ABC actually created fake websites strictly to preach their propaganda to entice viewers to dig deeper into the Lost mystique. Everyone remembers the Oceanic Airlines site with clues hidden behind the passenger tickets. And the Hanso corporation help wanted web page. And the golden retriever obedience school plus many more blogs and websites created to distract and bewilder the viewer. After six years, the writers objective has been achieved. The finale airs in a few days and still millions of viewers are virtually in the dark.

Secondly, We do know several finite things about Lost for sure. Ben Linus always lies. It's a constant. Keep that in mind as you watch the finale Sunday night. And of course, Juliet has an amazing rack. That's it folks. That is all we really know for sure. Everything else up to this point is pure speculation and theory. No more, no less.

When I wrote my first Lost update six years ago, I used music lyrics as my constant. (Leaving On A Jet Plane by Peter, Paul, and Mary was my first title) Lyrics would be used to relate my update and theory to each said episode. I felt it would be my niche, my unique twist to separate me from other Lost blogs. As the season progressed, finding out how easy it was to attach music to the plot of the Lost series, I stumbled upon the revelation that music played a very important role in the telling of the Lost story. In a very subtle way.

This leads us to tonight's update, title and lyrics. After you read them, you will not be able to deny that the lyrics are not connected to Lost.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we'll do the rest

The blue bus is callin' us
The blue bus is callin' us
Driver, where you taken' us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you

C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
C'mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin' a blue rock
C'mon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But you'll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

The above lyrics were penned by Jim Morrison, the legendary rocker and lead man of the Doors. His life and death was shrouded in mystery and conspiracy theories are still circulating today concerning his demise. I chose This Is The End not just because of its title, but because of its significance to Lost and the castaways.

Before I explain my theory for the last time, I want you to be patient and go back to the top of this page and slowly re-read the lyrics again. Twice more if need be. When reading them, think back on the series pilot, and the sojourn each individual began that fateful day. You will notice intertwined in the lyrics lost loves, lost lives, lost souls, lost opportunities. You will also notice the reference to the Roman empire, the blue bus Hurley drove, the magical waterfall, the crazy mother, Jacob, MIB and his rage, the Smoke monster, and all the unexplained almost psychedelic trip the castaways have been on.

Onward To the Lost Update:

Just what is the Grassy Knoll Institutes Lost theory….I am only going to tell you one more time...
As Juliet stated, the Aliens of course.

The Lost pilot opened with a close up of an eye, Jack Shepherds eye, lying in a field in the jungle. Tonight's episode opened the same way. A close up of Jacks eye, only this time, he was on the mainland, in his own bed. Throughout the six-year series, the eye closeup signaled a course correction, or perhaps a change in direction, either from the plot, or the character himself/herself. Everything is coming full circle.

When we first met Jack, he was analytical, did not believe he was brought to the island for a purpose. He did everything in his power to get himself and everyone else off the island. Tonight, he steps up, accepts the candidacy from Jacob as protector of the island. A complete 180 of who he was at the beginning. Jack was given a choice, to accept the job, or to refrain. Something that Jacob wasn't afforded.

This my friends, and enemies, is the crux of my Lost theory, and the series itself. It comes down to choice. When confronted with a scenario with an infinite amount of outcomes, what choice will each candidate select? Remember what my theory is all about. Subjects, (Humans) under the guise of virtual reality, placed in formidable scenario's with select variables to sway the outcome, and then study the results to determine the best case scenario for mankind.

Tonight, Jack made everyone happy when he accepted the challenge of the protector of the island. Hurley didn't want it, Sawyer was pissed for even being there, let alone voluntarily staying for infinity to protect the island, and Kate, well, she was happy not to be considered. He even made Smoky happy because now he has the opportunity or do what he always wanted. To blow up the island and finally get off it.

In a nut shell. For Jack, his entire Lost journey, all his pitfalls, all the heartache, the fear, the pain, even the love, molded and guided him to that very moment when he accepted the candidacy. All his actions, or lack there of, were recorded and studied. Perhaps he performed the same scenario countless times until the exact correct conditions were achieved for him to succeed. As Jacob MIB discussed in the season five finale,
Unknown Man: You’re still trying to prove me wrong.
Jacob: You are wrong!
Unknown Man: They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.
Jacob: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that, it’s just progress.

Tonight, it ends. Jack finally got around to accepting by choice, his own fate.

To be clear, Lost was not all about Jack. Every castaway, every candidate was given a choice in their very own personal scenario. Each castaway was put through the same scenario's, tests, experiments. Multiple variables were set to hopefully achieve favorable results.

Even Desmond, who I believe became aware of the virtual reality loop he and everyone was reliving, attempted to correct events to a favorable outcome. However, his intentions were driven by personal gains, needs. He wanted Penny. The love of his life. Ask yourself if Desmond would have done all those things without the proper motivation.

The same goes for Sawyer. Time and time again, his scenario always ended badly. Hurley, he didn't want the job, he was glad he wasn't chosen. All the other candidates in very similar situations. All with less than favorable results.

Up until Jack accepted, all results were sub-par. There was always an ulterior motive. Until Jack. He felt he was destined to be the protector.

Tidbits From Tonight's Episode:

* Eye opening, change of scenario, course correction. This time for Jack.
* Desmond calls Jack, lies saying he is with Oceanic airlines and tells him they found his father.
* Kate says, we have to kill Locke. Jack says, I know.
* Desmond on the side flash beats Ben Linus. As he's doing so, Ben sees a flash and realizes that he knows Desmond.
* As Richard, Miles, and Ben are in the old cabin where Ben used to live, he tells them of the secret room behind the book-case. He says it's where he used to go to summon the monster. Until he realized that it was the monster who was summoning him.
* Desmond turns himself in to interact with Kate and Sayid.
* Hugo sees young Jacob, he grabs the ashes and runs. He later meets up with adult Jacob. Jacob tells him we're close to the end now.
* Smoky attacks Richard.
* Ben awaits his fate with Smoky, sits on his porch. Smoky asks where Widmore is hiding and that he wants Ben to kill a few people for him. Ben says sure.
* In the side flash, it would appear that Ben is getting what he wanted on the island. Happiness.
* Smoky kills Zoe. Smoky then asks why Widmore came back. (To stop Smoky from leaving)
* Ben shoots and kills Widmore.
* Ben asks who else Smoky wants him to kill.
* Jacob talks to Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sawyer, explains that one of them will be the protector of the island.
* Widmore dies by the hand of Ben Linus.
* Zoe dies by the hand of Smoky.
* Locke visits Jack, tells him of the strange events occurring in the alternate reality, and says he is finally ready to be fixed.
* Jacob states he made a mistake, made Smoky the way he is. And ever since, Smoky has been trying to kill him.
* Jacob states all the castaways were flawed, all alone, broken. That's why he brought them to the island.
* Jacob infers that he wants the candidates to kill Smoky.
* Jacob blesses water in a stream, makes Jack drink it, tells him now you're like me.
* Desmond makes Sayid and Kate promise him to do something for their freedom. Sort of like Jacob's visits to the mainland.
* Ana Lucia returns, takes bribe money, it's not her time yet.
* Desmond was the fail-safe. The ace in the hole. The second candidate if Jack didn't step up to the plate.

Sunday night is the series finale. I cannot believe it. I've been updating this blog for six years and there's only one more left. Come Sunday night, my update may be very short, as in, Scenario A, Hell yea, I was right, it is a virtual reality laboratory. Or, Scenario B, Hell no, I was completely dead wrong. They're all stuck in a snow globe. Or worse, Scenario C, unanswered questions that leave an avenue for a Lost movie coming to a theater near year you in 2011. Let's hope it's either A or B. I only want one more update. Until Sunday, Get Lost.

Lost Update - A Matter Of Trust

Lost Update - Season Six - 05/04/2010
This time you've got nothing to lose
You can take it, you can leave it
Whatever you choose
I won't hold back anything
And I'll walk away a fool or a king
Some love is just a lie of the mind
It's make-believe until its only a matter of time
And some might have learned to adjust
But then it never was a matter of trust

I'm sure you're aware love
We've both had our share of
Believing too long
When the whole situation was wrong

Some love is just a lie of the soul
A constant battle for the ultimate state of control
After you've heard lie upon lie
There can hardly be a question of why
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
But that can't happen to us
Because it's always been a matter of trust

As Lost steam rolls to its finale May 23rd, the show reveals that it has always been about a matter of trust and faith. Just as Billy Joel's lyrics above say, It's always been a matter of trust. And tonight, the castaways must trust each other or die. And this my Lost friends, is exactly what I've been talking about for years. Tonight's episode supports my Lost theory. Trust me.

Just what is the Grassy Knoll Institutes Lost theory…. I’ve been waiting six years to tell you…..
As Juliet stated, the Aliens of course.

Before we get into the crux of tonight's update, let's all take a moment of silence for the loss of Sayid, Lapedius, Sun and Jin. They didn't make it out of the sub. Sayid does a 180 and saves the castaways. Sun being pinned and Jin refusing to leave her. And when Lapedius saw the leak on the submarine door, it reminded me of the comedy movie, Airport, when the captain said, "I picked a hell of a day to quit drinking!" (There's your comedy relief to lighten the mood. Dry your eyes and lets press on through this update)

Fret not Lost fans. They didn't die. None of them died. Not really. Remember, its virtual reality, and each and every person is interconnected which explains the familiarity amongst them. Tonight was more than just about death, sorrow, sadness, it was also about trust. And convergence. Let's start with Jack.

Jack in the side flash, interacts with John Locke, saves his life, and wants to continue with another procedure to help him walk again. Locke while recovering, is in twilight sleep and Jack overhears him muttering, "Have to push the button, I wish you would have believed me!" All these things were happening on the island. Remember the hatch and pushing the button and when Locke was disappointed in Jack for not having faith in him and the island.

To top it off, Jack tells Locke, what ever happened, happened. And just as Locke was wheeling himself away, Jack says, "I wish you believed in me!" All happened on and off the island. Jack had similar interactions with other castaways in previous side ways flashes. In all of them, he and the castaways became aware of their double life. Coincidence that everyone was on the same plane, flight 815. Coincidence that they all interact in the side ways flash! I think not!

As I stated before, the castaways are living in a virtual reality laboratory unbeknownst to them. Being experimented on. Being tested. Forced without knowledge to act out many scenario's. Some in the past, present, and future. Some on the island, some on the mainland. The subconscious mind is creating a deJa Vu in an attempt to cope with the over lapping scenario's. Hence, the castaways are beginning to wake up, become aware, and like Desmond, attempting to master their domain.

Part Two: A brutal experiment involving Jin and Sun.
Love is a strong emotion. Jin and sun were put into a no win situation. Sun was pinned and the sub was taking on water. Jin was powerless to free her. Sun tells Jin to leave him, to save himself. Jin professes his love to Sun and vows that he will not leave her ever again. They kiss, cry, and embrace their destiny together, never to be apart again.

Jin was given the permission to leave from sun. She begged him to save himself.. His very life was hanging in the balance. Does he stay with Sun and drown or save himself. How many people could make that kind of choice? Perhaps that is why Jacob told MIB that he was going to continue the experiments until they got it right. Perhaps Jin and Sun played this scenario out hundreds of times. Perhaps they both made it safely out. Perhaps Jin left Sun. What is the right answer? We'll know May 23rd.

Tidbits From Tonight's Episode:

* Bernard in the sideways flash is pretty much the same as he is on the island.
* Sawyer returns to the cages.
* Why didn't Smoky take the lead in the charge on the heavily guarded submarine. Turn into Smoky and kill them all. Why did he hold back?
* Bernard tells Jack its weird that they were both on flight 815 along with John Locke.
* The castaways once again leave Claire behind when they board the sub. She looked pissed.
* Sayid still had an ounce of good left in him. Tells Jack about the Desmond situation and takes the bomb and saves everyone.
* Widmore tells Sawyer who is locked in the cage, "Trust me, it's for your own good." There's that word "Trust" again!
* Kate is shot. Is it lethal? I doubt it.
* Jack says to Locke, You're a candidate, but Locke declines. As if he knew in the alternate reality that he would not be worthy.
* Locke is responsible for his fathers vegetative condition. Just the opposite in the flash back, when Lockes father was the reason for him being confined to the wheelchair.
* When Jack frees the castaways from the cages, he says, He's with him, meaning the Smoke Monster.
* Finally, tonight's lyrics, read them again. What's your take on them?

Can you believe it. May 23rd is the Lost series finale. I hope to see everyone here in the next few short weeks celebrating what a fantastic program Lost has turned out to be. And you still have time, tell us all your Lost theory. There is still time. Trust me!

Lost In The Twilight Zone Update - Finale

Lost In The Twilight Zone Update 04/27/2010

There is no new Lost episode tonight offering the perfect opportunity to publish my final ABC Lost / Twilight Zone correlation update. The ABC Lost finale airs Sunday evening May 23rd.

Some Background Before We Proceed:

The Twilight Zone was a classic science fiction television series created by Rod Serling that aired from 1959 to 1964. Each episode intertwined the supernatural with topical moral events in today’s society ending with a twist convoluting the outcome. I argue that the same can be said about ABC Lost. The castaways are more than just stranded on an island. There are mysterious forces at work of powers unknown. And just like the Twilight Zone, a twist is inserted in the story convoluting the outcome.

The Twilight Zone had a standard format. Each episode began with a prologue, usually with the host, Rod Serling doing the voice over introducing the characters and setting. At the end of the show, Serling would offer up a final narration of what the viewer just witnessed.

Tonight's format will be different than previous updates. Instead of intensely comparing a single Twilight Zone episode to Lost, we will lightly review seven episodes. Instead of a lengthy comparison of all seven episodes, I will leave judgment in the hands of the viewers only pointing out the obvious.

Tonight's Offerings Are:
The Odyssey Of Flight 33 - Original Airdate - 2/24/21961
Shadow Play - Original Airdate - 05/05/1961
It's A Good Life - Original Airdate - 11/03/1961
Queen Of The Nile - Original Airdate - 03/06/1964
Stopover In A Quiet Town - Original Airdate - 04/24/1964
Little Girl Lost - Original Airdate - 03/16/1962
The Bewitching Pool - Original Airdate - 06/19/1964

Once you see the similarities of both programs, you will quickly realize that Lost is a modern-day Twilight Zone.

The Odyssey Of Flight 33

Monologue:

You're riding on a jet airliner en route from London to New York. You're at 35,000 feet atop an overcast and roughly fifty-five minutes from Idlewild Airport. But what you've seen occur inside the cockpit of this plane is no reflection on the aircraft or the crew. It's a safe, well-engineered, perfectly designed machine, and the men you've just met are a trained, cool, highly efficient team. The problem is simply that the plane is going too fast and there is nothing within the realm of knowledge or at least logic to explain it. Unbeknownst to passengers and crew, this aeroplane is heading into an uncharted region well off the beaten track of commercial travelers. It's moving into the Twilight Zone. What you're about to see we call The Odyssey of Flight 33.

Synopsis:

Global Airlines flight 33, typical flight from London to New York. An hour into the flight the Captain and crew notices the plane is acting strange. Its picking up speed and they cannot stop it. They fly into some sort of barrier and are thrown back in time. They spot dinosaurs on the ground that confirms their belief. The captain attempts to repeat the incredible speed increase in hopes of returning to the present. The captain succeeds but finds they didn't travel far enough and find themselves looking down over the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. Being low on fuel, the captain informs crew and passengers that he is going to attempt one more time to reach home and for everyone to remain as calm as possible.

Epilogue:

A Global jet airliner, en route from London to New York on an uneventful afternoon in the year 1961, but now reported overdue and missing, and by now searched for on land, sea, and air by anguished human beings fearful of what they'll find. But you and I know where she is, you and I know what's happened. So if some moment, any moment, you hear the sound of jet engines flying atop the overcast, engines that sound searching and lost, engines that sound desperate, shoot up a flare or do something. That would be Global 33 trying to get home — from the Twilight Zone.

Lost Tie-In:

Lost began, or perhaps ended on a fateful plane ride. We all know what happened. The plane crashed, bizarre events happened to them, including time travel and so far just like in the Twilight Zone, they are still searching for home.

Shadow Play

Monologue:

Adam Grant, a nondescript kind of man found guilty of murder and sentenced to the electric chair. Like every other criminal caught in the wheels of justice he's scared, right down to the marrow of his bones. But it isn't prison that scares him, the long, silent nights of waiting, the slow walk to the little room, or even death itself. It's something else that holds Adam Grant in the hot, sweaty grip of fear, something worse than any punishment this world has to offer, something found only in the Twilight Zone.

Synopsis:

Adam Grant was a man convicted of murder who tries to convince the judge and jury that he is living a nightmare, that everything around him is just an illusion that keeps repeating over and over. He states that the judge, attorneys, and jury are merely players in his dream. The judge asks why he is so concerned of dying if its only a dream and Grant says because since having this nightmare, he hasn't been able to get any sleep because he always wakes up screaming. He tells his attorney to go home and what he originally thought was for dinner will be something else. What Grant said is true, and the attorneys friends discuss the matter and perhaps get a stay of execution on the lines of insanity. Alas, the call to the governor arrives to late and Adam Grant is electrocuted. The next day, the same events occur once again, Grant in court going through the same motions, except the characters have assumed different roles.

Epilogue:

We know that a dream can be real, but whoever thought that reality could be a dream? We exist, of course, but how, in what way? As we believe, as flesh-and-blood human beings, or are we simply parts of someone's feverish, complicated nightmare? Think about it, and then ask yourself, do you live here, in this country, in this world, or do you live instead in the Twilight Zone?

Lost Tie-In:

This connects to my virtual reality theory precisely. Men and women in a captured audience, going through the motions of an execution hearing. One man (Desmond) realizes that everything is an illusion and tries to convince the rest of the people (Castaways) the same. Grant is not completely successful and the pattern repeats itself yet again in hopes that finally someone will come to his aid and rescue him from this nightmare.

Sound like Desmond!!! Desmond is living this nightmare. He now realizes that it is some sort of dream, an illusion, or virtual reality, and he sets off to help not only himself, but the other castaways to help them all wake up from the same shared nightmare.

Its A Good Life

Monologue:

Tonight's story on The Twilight Zone is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction. This, as you may recognize, is a map of the United States, and there's a little town there called Peaksville. On a given morning not too long ago, the rest of the world disappeared and Peaksville was left all alone. Its inhabitants were never sure whether the world was destroyed and only Peaksville left untouched or whether the village had somehow been taken away. They were, on the other hand, sure of one thing: the cause. A monster had arrived in the village. Just by using his mind, he took away the automobiles, the electricity, the machines - because they displeased him - and he moved an entire community back into the dark ages - just by using his mind. Now I'd like to introduce you to some of the people in Peaksville, Ohio. This is Mr. Fremont. It's in his farmhouse that the monster resides. This is Mrs. Fremont. And this is Aunt Amy, who probably had more control over the monster in the beginning than almost anyone. But one day she forgot. She began to sing aloud. Now, the monster doesn't like singing, so his mind snapped at her, turned her into the smiling, vacant thing you're looking at now. She sings no more. And you'll note that the people in Peaksville, Ohio, have to smile. They have to think happy thoughts and say happy things because once displeased, the monster can wish them into a cornfield or change them into a grotesque, walking horror. This particular monster can read minds, you see. He knows every thought, he can feel every emotion. Oh yes, I did forget something, didn't I? I forgot to introduce you to the monster. This is the monster. His name is Anthony Fremont. He's six years old, with a cute little-boy face and blue, guileless eyes. But when those eyes look at you, you'd better start thinking happy thoughts, because the mind behind them is absolutely in charge. This is the Twilight Zone.

Synopsis:

A 6-year-old boy named Anthony normal looking in every way, but looks are deceiving. Anthony is a monster with supernatural powers. Whatever he wishes, happens. All he has to do is think of something and it happens. The townsfolk walk on egg shells in hopes of not angering Anthony. They don't know if he destroyed the state of Ohio or the entire world. Anthony made cars go away, makes the townsfolk live without electricity and television programs. He controls the weather and even what supplies can be found at the local grocery and supply store.

The townsfolk are frightened of Anthony and keep telling him that he is good because if Anthony is displeased, he will wish that person away to the cornfield never to be seen again. Anthony hears a dog barking, and he doesn't like, and sends the dog to the cornfield.

Life continues like this for some time until a birthday party where Dan, who is drunk, can't take Anthony anymore and stands up to him. He calls Anthony a monster and tells the other adults to stand up and kill Anthony from behind. No one acts. Dan is sent to the cornfield.

Because Anthony is angry at what has happened, he makes it snow outside. His father tells Anthony that the snow will kill off half the crops. But as the adults look on, worried smiles on their faces, his father smiles and tells Anthony in a horror-tinged voice, but it's a real good thing you did Anthony. A real good thing. And tomorrow.... tomorrow's gonna be a... real good day!"

Epilogue:

No comment here, no comment at all. We only wanted to introduce you to one of our very special citizens, little Anthony Fremont, age 6, who lives in a village called Peaksville in a place that used to be Ohio. And if by some strange chance you should run across him, you had best think only good thoughts. Anything less than that is handled at your own risk, because if you do meet Anthony you can be sure of one thing: you have entered the Twilight Zone.

Lost Tie-In:

Ok, everyone sees that the Smoke Monster is Anthony. Old Smoky has supernatural powers just like Anthony. he has his people frightened to death just like Anthony. Anyone that displeases Smoky, gets destroyed, sort of like getting sent to the cornfield. People rise up and revolt against Smoky, only to get destroyed.

The Lost island, an island that cannot be seen and is in unknown waters, sounds a lot like Peaksville, Ohio. Only Peaksville exists to the townsfolks. There is nothing beyond the city limits.

I hope you are beginning to see the similarities of Lost and the Twilight Zone and how the writers used these scenario's to write and feed off for their show.

Queen Of The Nile

Monologue:

Jordan Herrick, syndicated columnist whose work appears in more than a hundred newspapers. By nature a cynic, a disbeliever, caught for the moment by a lovely vision. He knows the vision he's seen is no dream; she is Pamela Morris, renowned movie star, whose name is a household word and whose face is known to millions. What Mr. Herrick does not know is that he has also just looked into the face--of the Twilight Zone.

Synopsis:

Noted cynic columnist Jordan Herick prepares to interview the famous actress Pamela Morris known for her extreme beauty and vitality. Many ask her what her secret to staying young is. The interview takes place at the home of Pamela Morris. Jordan meets an old woman and assumes it is Pamela's mother. The old woman speaks up and claims she is the daughter of Pamela. Jordan thinks the old woman is senile.

Pamela comes down and Jordan sees her and falls in love with her. During the interview which turns into flirtatious conversation, where Pamela reveals her dark secret. She produces a small Egyptian scarab beetle. She claims it has the power to drain the life force from other people and transfer the life force to herself enabling her to stay young and healthy forever.

Jordan finds this ridiculous but wonders why she told him this information. He suddenly realizes that he has been poisoned and attempts to escape but to no avail. He falls dead in the house. Pamela uses the scarab to suck the life force from Jordan reducing Jordan to a pile of dust.

The episode ends with another young columnist arriving to interview Pamela, starting the cycle once again. It is implied that Pamela is actually Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, and that she has been existing this way for centuries.

Epilogue:

Everybody knows Pamela Morris, the beautiful and eternally young movie star. Or does she have another name, even more famous, an Egyptian name from centuries past? It's best not to be too curious, lest you wind up like Jordan Herrick, a pile of dust and old clothing, discarded in the endless eternity of the Twilight Zone.

Lost Tie-In:

In this episode, we have the Egyptian mysticism that is so prevalent on Lost. And a woman who doesn't age that goes by another more famous name, Cleopatra. Richard Alpert from Lost doesn't age. And if you take the initials from his first and last name, RA, you get the Egyptian Sun God, Ra. Coincidence, we think not.

Stopover In A Quiet Town

Monologue:

Bob and Millie Frasier: average young New Yorkers who had attended a party in the country last night, and on the way home, took a detour. Most of us, on waking in the morning, know exactly where we are; the rooster or the alarm clock brings us out of sleep into the familiar sights, sounds, aromas of home and the comfort of a routine day ahead. Not so with our young friends. This will be a day like none they've ever spent, and they'll spend it in the Twilight Zone.

Synopsis:

A married couple wake up in a strange house. They only remember that they both drank too much at a party the night before. On the way home, a large shadow had appeared over their car and followed them. As they explore the house, they find its fake, cabinets glued, the appliances mere props, sort of like a doll house. All of a sudden they hear a child's laugh. They go to explore and find the town is all fake as well, right down to the trees on the lawn. They are the only people in town.

The couple become nervous and begin questioning where they are and thinks that perhaps they are in Hell dying in a car crash the night before. Just then they hear a train whistle and rush to the train station thinking they finally found a way out of the town. Smiling, they board the train and are relieved when the train starts moving and heading out-of-town. After a few minutes the train comes to a stop and they realize it went in a circle and they are back where they started.

Rejected, they leave the train and head back into town and are pursued by the large shadow that followed them into town and again they hear the child laugh. Its revealed that the shadow is a giant alien child who abducted the couple from Earth to be pets.

Epilogue:

The moral of what you've just seen is clear: if you drink, don't drive. And if your wife has had a couple, she shouldn't drive, either. You might both just wake up with a whale of a headache, in a deserted village, in the Twilight Zone.

Lost Tie-In:

This episode introduces the alien influence to the castaways of Lost. The child is playing with them, putting them in multiple scenario's at her whim. They appear to be in control, but they are not. They are trapped in the virtual reality lab.

When the couple tried to escape, they failed, just as the castaways have attempted to escape the island. They always wound up back on the island where they began.

And the twist, as I have been stating for six years, is the introduction of the aliens at the very end of the series, pulling the strings, running the show.

Little Girl Lost

Monologue:

Missing: one frightened little girl. Name: Bettina Miller. Description: Six years of age, average height and build, light brown hair, quite pretty. Last seen being tucked into bed by her mother a few hours ago. Last heard--aye, there's the rub, as Hamlet put it. For Bettina Miller can be heard quite clearly, despite the rather curious fact that she can't be seen at all. Present location? Let's say for the moment--in the Twilight Zone.

Synopsis:

A couple, Chris and Ruth, are awoken by the distant whimpering of their little girl, Tina. The couple get up to investigate when they hear their dog barking. They find Tina's bed empty but they can hear her crying. The parents look everywhere for Tina but can't find her.

The father can hear Tina crying and her voice has a strange echo sound to it. He tells his wife that although they can hear Tina, she is no longer with them. All the while the dog is barking wildly in the back yard. The father calls his friend who happens to be a physicist to help find Tina. He lets him in the house and the dog follows. The dog (Vincent) runs to Tina's room and under the bed. In an instant, they dog is gone as well but can still hear it barking.

The physicist examines the ball behind the bed and discovers a portal to another dimension. A dimension that sometimes runs parallel together with their own. They plan on using the dog to guide Tina back to the portal and to safety but it doesn't work. The father then leans into the portal and falls into the other dimension. He lands hard and he sees a bizarre place, quite unlike his own, where things are turning upside down and inside out at the same time.

The father sees the dog and Tina and tries to guide them back to where the portal is. He is afraid to move an inch in fear of not finding the portal again. He hears the physicist tell him to hurry up. Finally, after a tense few minutes, he grabs Tina and the dog and is pulled back to the other side.

The physicist explains that he was telling the father to hurry because the portal was closing in on him and he was actually between dimensions and if he would have stayed a few more seconds, he would have been caught in both dimensions.

Epilogue:

The other half where? The fourth dimension? The fifth? Perhaps. They never found the answer. Despite a battery of research physicists equipped with every device known to man, electronic and otherwise, no result was ever achieved, except perhaps a little more respect for and uncertainty about the mechanisms of the Twilight Zone.

Lost Tie-In:

Another dimension, a portal to another place. That is right up the Lost castaways alley. The Lost crew has been tossed through time and space countless times ending up who knows where.

About the father in between dimensions. This depicts Desmond. He is living in both dimensions, this is how he can see what is happening in the other time lines and seems to know what is happening in the future.

The Bewitching Pool

Monologue:

A swimming pool not unlike any other pool, a structure built of tile and cement and money, a backyard toy for the affluent, wet entertainment for the well-to-do. But to Jeb and Sport Sharewood, this pool holds mysteries not dreamed of by the building contractor, not guaranteed in any sales brochure. For this pool has a secret exit that leads to a never-neverland, a place designed for junior citizens who need a long voyage away from reality, into the bottomless regions of the Twilight Zone.

Introduction to a perfect setting: Colonial mansion, spacious grounds, heated swimming Pool, all the luxuries money can buy. Introduction to two children, brother and sister: names: Jeb and Sport, healthy, happy, normal youngsters. Introduction to a mother: Gloria Sharewood by name, glamorous by nature. Introduction to a father: Gil Sharewood, handsome, prosperous, the picture of success, a man who has achieved every man's ambition: beautiful children, beautiful home, beautiful wife. Idyllic? Obviously. But don't look too carefully; don't peek behind the facade. The ideal may have feet of clay.

Synopsis:

Sport Sharewood and her brother Jeb live in a big, expensive house, but their mother is cold, insensitive and self-centered; their father is kinder, but still a distant and preoccupied businessman.

While Sport and Jeb are sitting by the pool, a young boy that looked like Huckleberry Finn pops up from the deep end of the pool and invites them to follow him. Scout and Jeb do indeed follow him diving underwater. When they surface, they find themselves in a simple rustic homestead. They see kids swimming. laughing, having fun, and playing. It is the complete opposite of their real home life. It is considered the ultimate paradise, where the children are always loved.

A woman appears, calls herself Aunt T, and explains that there are many children whose parents don't deserve them. But soon, sport and Jeb return home to find their parents didn't even notice they were gone and are divorcing. They race back to the pool, dive in, and escape back to Aunt T and the other children.

Epilogue:

A brief epilogue for concerned parents. Of course, there isn't any such place as the gingerbread house of Aunt T, and we grownups know there's no door at the bottom of a swimming pool that leads to a secret place. But who can say how real the fantasy world of lonely children can become? For Jeb and Sport Sharewood, the need for love turned fantasy into reality; they found a secret place - in the Twilight Zone.

Lost Tie-In:

This was the Twilight Zone's final episode. It wasn't planned as the last episode, so there was no build up to a finale as there is with Lost. However, it is an excellent episode to end with.

The pool is an analogy of then island. The escape hatch is the hatch on the island, or perhaps the secret portal Ben uses to travel to and from the island as well through time and space. When the children do escape, they find an idealic scenario, exactly what children want. Laughing, playing, games, fun all day, candy. Almost as if someone read their minds and constructed a perfect play ground for them.

As we first witnessed the others in their cabins and huts living peaceful, with book clubs, cooking brownies, and tossing the football around, the citizens were at peace. When they returned to the real world, they found that they didn't really fit in there anymore and longed to return back to their island. Just as Sport and Jeb did.

Submitted for your approval. A Lost theory formulated six years ago before most of the cast of characters were introduced. A theory that slowly unfolded revealing more and more of its whole as if a puzzle were being pieced together. As season six comes to an end, my theory is laid out in all its glory, in full view, for all to see.

The sign post up ahead, the next stop.....
