Bantry Bay Irish Pub - New York Cheeseburger

bantry-bay-brooklyn-ny
Bantry Bay
Back in February, while attending the Toy Fair, a huge blizzard canceled my flight back to Youngstown and I had to scramble for lodging for the evening or stay trapped at the airport all night. I supposedly got lucky and found a room at the Best Western hotel about 10-12 miles from LaGuardia airport, New York. Being that the Best Western did not have a restaurant, and I did not have a rental car, my options were to go hungry or find a place to eat within walking distance. (I should have went hungry)

The Bantry Bay Bar is located just on the outskirts of Brooklyn, within walking distance of the Best Western hotel and since I was walking in blizzard conditions and I was hungry,  Irish food it was.

The Sign On The Wall Said...
Walking into the joint I was greeted with this sign. At least there weren't any bugs. And no employee's either. The place was deserted which is never a good sign. A few shout out hello's and a blond waitress appears from the back room, smiles, and told me to take a seat anywhere. She handed me a menu and said she would be right back for my order.
Yes - I Said Cheese Balls
My order started with an appetizer of cheese balls with marinara sauce. I won't say these were tasteless, or terrible, but I will certainly print it.

Not The Cheeseburgers You're Looking For
My main order was a cheeseburger and french fries. When it arrived to my table, things were looking up as the cheeseburger looked pretty enticing. Until I took a bite. I have to say, it was one of the worst tasting burgers I ever encountered. Being very hungry, I managed to choke about half of it down and relied on the adequate at best fries to fill my hunger desire.

The cost for this meal was about $20 not including tip.

The Grassy Knoll Institute awards 1.25 shots out of 5 and does not recommend the Bantry Bay bar located in Brooklyn, New York.

aah. I think I posted a comment to the other blog…
Anyway. Do you know how I can put a mp3 into my posts?
That cheeseburger looked good until I read that it sucked.

Antones Italian Restaurant - Fried Cheese

Looks, in this case, are deceiving. Although it does not look appetizing, the fried cheese and spaghetti sauce was actually quite delicious. (Albeit very messy) The two added meatballs however, were adequate at best. And at 99 cents each, they were way over priced.
The fried cheese was a 4 inch square about an inch thick breaded and fried to a deep golden brown. It was not greasy or burnt or soggy as other types go. It cut easily with a knife and was far less messy than other fried cheese dishes out there.
The fried cheese came in a standard Styrofoam container. The cheese and meatballs were hot, well cooked, but a little messy as the delivery bag was tousled up a bit.
The cost was $2.79 plus the $1.98 for two meatballs. A little overpriced for the entire combo, but is awarded 3.5 out of 5 shots from the Grassy Knoll Institute for its taste.

Pastino's Chicken Planks

Pastino's chicken tenders and cheese sticks. Fries were extra. You are looking at $6.75 worth of food in a tin foil and styrofoam container. The chicken tenders were standard, chicken from the grocery store cooked in Pastino's oil. And so were the fries. And the cheese sticks. Possibly all at the same time. No matter if I took a bite out of the chicken, fries, or cheese sticks, somehow, they all tasted and smelled the same. But hey, it's only $6.75 right!

The service, standard delivery, tin foil reactor plates, and plastic bags. The food was hot, and the order was correct, and edible, and filling, and cheap enough to serve as a lunch.

With this in mind, the Grassy Knoll Institute awards 2.5 shots out of 5 and recommends Pastino's for lunch.

Phone: 330-746-6900.
The order: Chicken strips with fries and a side order of fried cheese sticks with sauce.
The Service: Standard take out. The order was ready on time.
The Taste: Not bad. The meal was hot, the chicken crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The fries were cooked and not soggy. The fried cheese was hot and the sauce was tangy. The grease could use more frequent changes.
Presentation: Standard attire of styrofoam cartons.
The Value: Under 4 bucks. Pretty good value for four pieces of chicken, fries, and 5 cheese sticks.

The Rating: 3 out of 5 shots. Grassy Knoll Diner recommends the chicken and fries lunch at Cafe Roma.
