Longhorn Steakhouse - Filet Mignon

Longhorn Steakhouse
The city of Youngstown has plenty of restaurants to choose from with many good steak houses. Longhorn Steakhouse in Boardman, Ohio was our selection for dinner tonight. We were seated quickly and our waitress came over to take our drink orders. A few minutes later she took our dinner orders

Salad
Our salads were delivered to our table. The salad was standard fare. It was fresh, had adequate lettuce and tomatoes, crunchy croutons, and several assorted other greens. The good thing about the salad was that it was fresh. That goes a long way.

Longhorn Rolls
The rolls were delivered at the same time as the salads. The rolls were warm, fresh, and appeared to be home made. They tasted very good as the butter melted right into the dough.

Loaded Potato Soup
One of my favorite types of soup is potato soup. Longhorns version of potato soup had of course chunks of potatoes in a creamy sauce. A sprinkling of bacon bits, shredded cheese, and some chives. The soup was very good, not the best, but very good.

Filet Mignon
Of course, when you are in a steakhouse, you order the steak. I selected the Filet Mignon and loaded baked potato. I asked for medium well done and to butterfly the steak. In less than 15 minutes, my filet was delivered to our table. It was cooked perfectly. BTW, this is the 9 ounce filet, and it was juicy and tender and bursting with flavor. There was not one iota of fat on this steak. It ranks up in the top 5% of filets.

The baked potato was well cooked. I hate when the potato is only halfway cooked and hard in the center. This one was hot and flavorful, with plenty of butter, melted cheese, and enough bacon covering the top to compliment the entire taste of the potato.

Strawberry Cheesecake
Feeling saucy, I went for dessert. I was full from all the food but the cheese cake looked intriguing. I ordered a slice. I wanted cherry cheese cake but alas, they did not have that on the menu. The closest they could get was strawberry sauce. The dessert capped off an almost perfect dinner. The cost of the dinner was right around $30 dollars not including tip but including dessert.

Also a plus was that Longhorn offers Coke Zero. I see more and more restaurants are offering this most excellent diet soft drink. Zero calories but all the Coca-Cola taste.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 4.5 out of 5 shots and recommends Longhorn Steakhouse for dinner.

Peddler Steakhouse - Filet Mignon

Peddler Salad
The Peddler Steakhouse has a reputation as being the best steakhouse in the Gatlinburg Smoky Mountains. We are all about to put that reputation to the test.

Yes, the Peddler has already been critiqued, but the steak was so good last time, it would merit a second visit. As usual, the Peddler was packed, all the tables occupied and about 100 people waiting to get a table. Knowing the little secret to secure a table we moved to the cocktail area overlooking the scenic stream. (You see, there is usually an hour to two hour wait for a table down stairs but if you go to the cock tail area, there are tables scattered about and you can order dinner and sit there.)

Our waitress came over and asked us what we wanted to drink. I went with the diet Coke and said we would also like to order dinner as well. (In like Flint) I began with the salad, one you make yourself from the salad bar down stairs. Notice the huge chunks of ham and hard boiled egg halves plus real bacon, not those cheap baco bits. The salad is a meal in itself. There were dozens of choices to select from. No two salads are the same.

Peddler Filet
The Gatlinburg Peddler is famous for steak, so of course I ordered the filet mignon and a baked potato. For the restaurant being so crowded, the service was quite peppy. In less than 20 minutes our steaks were delivered to our table plus another round of diet Cokes. Of course the filet was prepared perfectly. The taste was exquisite, yes, I said exquisite. Zero fat and juicy and tender and bursting with flavor. One of the best steaks I have ever had.

The only setback for the Peddler is it's own popularity. No matter when you go, no matter what day, you will always wait. Always. A one hour wait time is the average to get a seat.

The cost for the dinner is around $45.00 without tip but you get a fabulous salad, great steak, big ass baked potato, hot fresh rolls with butter, and the soft drink, (Coke) of your choice.

Yes, the Gatlinburg Peddler Steakhouse reputation does exceed expectations. With that, The Grassy Knoll Diner awards 4.75 out of 5 shots to the Peddler and recommends the steak house for dinner.

Stack Restaurant - Filet Mignon

How Did They Arrive At This Name
At least I know where this restaurant got it's name from. The waitresses and hostesses were all gorgeous women and of course, all were stacked in the breast department. Pamela Anderson size stacked. Hence the name. Stack!
Tomato Soup And Grilled Cheese
We had reservations and we were seated right on time. Menu's were brought out and drinks were ordered. (Lemon water for me)
I started out with tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I love tomato soup and it did not disappoint. The soup was hot and thick and very tasty. So was the grilled cheese sandwich. Crunchy but not burnt.
A perfect Filet Mignon
The main course was of course filet Mignon and a twice baked potato. The filet was cooked perfectly, medium well done. The portion was generous, the taste, very good. Not a sliver of fat. All grade A choice filet.

The twice baked potato was a huge portion. In fact, it was two large potatoes. I only ate one but it was very good.

The cost was pricey, coming in at around $60 plus tip. (Apparently the price of breast implants has risen)

The total experience was pleasant, service and food excellent allowing the Grassy Knoll Diner to award 4 out of 5 shots to Stack and recommends Stack for dinner while in Las Vegas.

Kokomo's Steak House - Filet Mignon

Discount Filet
I was in Las Vegas back in March staying at the Mirage for a trade show I was attending. On the night stand in my room was the above card. Usually a steak dinner at Kokomo's costs around $50 dollars so this deal looked very enticing. Basically $20 dollars off sounded like a fantastic deal.

A $30 Dollar Discounted Filet
We arrived around 7:30pm, and the restaurant was busy, but not crowded. We were seated very promptly. The waiter came by to take our order and to bring out some fresh bread. As you can see, I ordered the Filet Mignon and baked potato.

In less than 15 minutes, our dinners were brought to our table. The filet was cooked perfectly, medium well done and butterflied. The baked potato hot with butter only. It was well cooked. (I hate when they add sour cream) The filet was juicy, zero flavor, and tender. The baked potato also tasted excellent.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 4.25 out of 5 shots and recommends Kokomo's Steak House at the Mirage Hotel and Casino for dinner. (Especially when it's only $29.99 per dinner)

Maxwell’s Steak And Seafood – Stuffed Chicken And Baked Potato

Stuffed Chicken
Maxwell's restaurant located on the Parkway in Gatlinburg, Tennessee is a great place to eat. Usually! As was the case, Maxwell's did not have a long waiting list for dinner so we opted in.

Dining at Maxwell's many times before, I knew what I wanted before the menu's came out. Alas, that wouldn't be the cause. Our waitress introduced herself and took our drink and dinner orders. She told us she was new here at Maxwell's and still learning the ropes. I ordered the grilled chicken with lemon and a baked potato.

About 15 minutes later, our dinners arrived. As you can see, this was not what I ordered. It was stuffed chicken breast. At least the baked potato was correct. The stuffed chicken looked good enough and I didn't want to spoil our waitress's good spirits and first week of work so I accepted the dinner without telling her.

The stuffed chicken was well cooked, an adequate proportion, and tasted good. The stuffing was surprisingly good. Of course the baked potato was excellent. I love me some baked potatoes.

The cost was $17.00 without tip and was priced nicely.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 3 out of 5 shots and recommends Maxwell's of Gatlinburg for dinner. I was going to fail Maxwell's for getting the dinner selection wrong, but the waitress was new, she was nice, and the dinner was good.

I would have sent it back right away. If the waitress cant get a simple order correct, then she doesn’t belong there.

  2. Bitzky said

Heh, my upbringing made me so that I don’t really care if orders get mixed up, unless they bring me something I absolutely can’t eat. I love your food posts. Keep them coming! :D

Hoss’s Steakhouse - Final Dinner Bell

Now Closed
We have been going to Hoss's Steakhouse for years and years. Just a little while ago we received an email stating they were closing their doors and Sunday would be their last day open. Being that Hoss's is one of our favorite spots, we decided to go one more time.
The Salad Bar One More Time
This is where the meal begins. The salad bar. As you can see, it has a center island with two side platforms for breads, soups, cookies, pudding, ice cream, brownies, and much more. As for the salad bar side, lettuce, cheese, olives, carrots, diced hard boiled eggs, ham chunks, bacon bits, and more. The salad bar is a meal in itself, and comes with every entree.
Filet And Baked Potato
I ordered filet mignon and a baked potato. I was told it was the last filet they had. I was a little leery upon hearing this. Nevertheless, I stuck to my order.

And a wise choice indeed. The filet was tender, well cooked, and delicious. It was one of the best steaks I ever had there. And the baked potato was well cooked and very good as well.
Dessert Time
All that was left was dessert. I went for some ice cream and a little piece of apple strudel. My son decided on ice cream as well with sprinkles on top. I should say, he went with sprinkles with ice cream. He accidentally spilled them all over the table.

Lastly, the waitress, one that we had several times, came over, and as a reversal of fortunes, asked if she could take our picture. Of course we said yes. We said goodbye and left a larger tip than usual. Goodbye Hoss's Steakhouse.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 4.75 out of 5 shots and recommends Hoss's Steakhouse for dinner. Well, I would if it were still open.

Outback Steakhouse - Filet Mignon

Outback Steakhouse Boardman Ohio
Outback Steakhouse Boardman Ohio
My lovely wife Patty convinced me to go to Outback for dinner. Let it be known there wasn't much convincing to be done, but that's between you and me.

We walked it and got a table right away. they had just opened and plenty of tables were available. The waiter came by and explained the specials and took our drink orders. Yeah! They have Coke Zero!
Outback Steakhouse Filet Mignon And Baked Potato
Outback Steakhouse Filet Mignon And Baked Potato
As you can see, I ordered the filet mignon and baked potato. I was allowed two sides, but the others didn't appeal to me so they doubled up the baked potato.

The filet was excellent. Cooked exactly as ordered. Medium well. It was hot, juicy, and flavorful. It was one of the best steaks I have had. And that is saying a lot. Not an ounce of fat as the entire cut was choice filet. It was served in a timely manner.

The baked potato was well cooked as well. The butter melted through and the bacon bits was a nice added touch. The Coke Zero was a bottomless glass and was refilled twice without asking.

The service was very good, the waitress very attention and knowledgeable and very efficient. The cost was about $20 dollars without tip.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 4.5 out of 5 shots to the Outback Steakhouse and recommends them for lunch and dinner.

Crowne Metro Restaurant - Grilled Chicken

Crowne Metro Salad
The Crowne Metro restaurant located inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel located in Rosemont, Illlinois, a suburb of Chicago, is the next stop on our list of critiques.

Upon entering the restaurant, there were only about a dozen people eating. That is a bad sign especially during a trade show when thousands of extra people are in the city. Anyway, we were seated immediately at a table. I ordered the grilled chicken as the main entree and the house salad.

The salad was adequate at best and a little on the bland side. No celery, no bacon, cheese, eggs, olives. Just some lettuce and a few croutons. I wasn't holding out much hope for the chicken.

Grilled Chicken
About 20 minutes later, my dinner arrived. The chicken was cooked well, wasn't juicy, but wasn't dry either. The lemon helped add a little flavor to the chicken. The portion was generous, two medium sized pieces.

The baked potato was average sized and well cooked. Butter was the topping of choice.

The cost was a little steep, $20 dollars without tip.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 2.5 out of 5 stars and barely recommends Crowne Metro for lunch or dinner.
