ABC Lost Answers: Its Time To Let Go Now

Of all the 24,700,000 Lost joints in all the towns in all the world, she surfs into mine. Here's lookin at you Lost.

This is the area where I inserted a meaningful song title to tie in my Lost update to the episode that aired. Well, since there are no more episodes, I was going to skip this section until, as if by fate, as I was listening to some Motown hits this morning, I happened upon this song by Diana Ross and the Supremes. No, no, no, it wasn't Ain't No Mountain High Enough, or Someday We'll Be Together, not even My World Is Empty Without You. This tune hit me square. It is titled,

Reflections by Diana Ross and the Supremes

Through the mirror of my mind
Time after time
I see reflections of you and me

Reflections of
The way life used to be
Reflections of
The love you took from me

Oh, I'm all alone now
No love to shield me
Trapped in a world
That's a distorted reality

Happiness you took from me
And left me alone
With only memories

Through the mirror of my mind
Through these tears that I'm crying
Reflects a hurt I can't control
Cause although you're gone
I keep holding on
To the happy times
Oh, when you were mine

As I peer through the window
Of lost time
Looking over my yesterdays
And all the love I gave all in vain
(All the love) All the love
That I've waisted
(All the tears) All the tears
That I've tasted
All in vain

Through the hollow of my tears
I see a dream that's lost
From the hurt
That you have caused

Everywhere I turn
Seems like everything I see
Reflects the love that used to be

In you I put
All my faith and trust
Right before my eyes
My world has turned to dust

After all the nights
I sat alone and wept
Just a handful of promises
Are all that's left of loving you

Reflections of
The way life used to be
Reflections of
The love you took from me

In you I put
All my faith and trust
Right before my eyes
My world has turned to dust...

It was a hell of a run for the past six years as the Grassy Knoll Institute ranked consistently at the top of Google Search for key words pertaining to ABC Lost. If only one alien, one cryogenic pod, one scientist in a lab coat would have shown up in the church,... Ahh well, so shall it is.

This is the section where I would state my Lost theory, something like, No plane crash, no island, Juliets rack, Jacks a pussy, experiments, tests, aliens, government men, Rod Serling, cue the Lost music.

But anyway, as the Grassy Knoll Institute moves on and past the Lost Experience, we do have some closing remarks and questions. We understand that these questions will never be answered and just merely float around in cyber-space for all eternity but we're asking them anyway.

Question #1: After the Lost pilot episode aired, Cuse and Lindelof stated that the castaways were not in Purgatory. Not dead. Not in Heaven or Hell.

For six years, we were exposed to multiple time travel. Pushing a silly button every 108 minutes to save the world. Alternate realities. Life. Death. Hauntings. Ghosts. People that talk to ghosts. People that don't age. A smoke monster. Egyptian, Greek, and Roman markings and mysticism. An eternal life spring. People that are healed upon touching the island. People than are not healed upon touching the island. We saw the island disappear. We saw the island reappear. We saw flashes in the sky. We saw the hatch. Dr. Chang's tutorial films. We were introduced to the Hanso corporation. The Dharma Institute. Juliet's great rack. (Which we will never complain about) Space-time continuum theorems even Albert Einstein couldn't comprehend.

And what do all these things mean? Bumphus? Absolutely nothing. Except to the advertising world that stretched Lost into six seasons. Cuse and Lindelof, for lack of a better word, lied to the viewers of Lost. In the end, the castaways were all dead. And they were in Purgatory. So we have that....

Question #2: If only what happened on the island mattered, why were we subjected to six season of flash backs, flash forwards, and finally side way flashes? For the almighty advertising dollar. It was all filler. Sort of what's inside hot dogs. Hot dogs taste great, but you don't want to know what they are made of. (What's in the hatch? - What's in the hot dog?)

Question #3: Claire Littleton was pregnant on the island. She gave birth to a healthy boy she named Aaron. If they were all dead, then Aaron was born in Purgatory, and since you have to be dead to get into Purgatory, that means Aaron was already dead when he was born and Claire already dead when giving birth. See the spin here?

However, if what happens on the island only matters, how could Aaron also be born off the island, and live with Kate off the island if he was already born on the island, and in fact, born in Purgatory? These are the kind of answers I was looking for Sunday night.

Question #4: Jack made Hurley the new protector of the island. Made him drink from the river of life or whatever and told Hurley, "Now you are like me!" As in what Jacob told Jack. If they are like Jacob, and Jacob has been around for at least 2000 years, wouldn't that denote that Hurley would have the same type of life span? Especially with the smoke monster eliminated, and no natural enemies, Hurley should have lived for thousands of years just like Jacob. How did Hurley die? Did he eat himself into oblivion?

If Hurley was like Jacob, and did live for several thousand years, then all those people who were already dead had a very long time to wait in the church. I know, I know, time doesn't matter where they are, (Thanks Christian for that cherub) but he certainly would have outlasted Jack. Right? Right? Why was everyone waiting for Jack and not Hurley?

Question #5: Is Purgatory by invitation only? Not that anyone wants to be invited to that party, but where was Mr. Eko? Arguably the man with the most faith out of all the castaways. And school teacher Artz. All he wanted to do was protect and help. Where's his happy ending? And what about Walt? Where's his happy ending? Where's his anything ending? Some would say Michael, since he murdered two people, wasn't permitted to enter the church. If that were true, why was Sawyer there, who murdered a man on and off the island? And Kate, who murdered a man off the island? Niki and Paulo anyone?

Question #6: For years, all we heard was the love Desmond had for Penny. In the finale, he never even knew who Penny was. He was never with Penny o the island. If what happened on the island was the only thing that mattered, why was Desmond and Penny together in the church?

So, that's six questions for six seasons. As a bonus, there's always a bonus, perhaps one last Tidbit from tonight's episode section: Will there be a post Lost spin-off movie or series? Exploring the lives of the purgatory they now live (Die) in. Fleshing out the years of Sawyer and Juliet and her magnificent rack. Jack and Kate? Sayid and Shannon. Hurley, king of the jungle. Charlie and Claire. And when Ben finally has the courage to step through the church doors. Perhaps then we will see a Twilight Zone twist of fate or even aliens experimenting on the castaways in a cryogenic chamber. Perhaps not!

Epilogue:
Thank you to everyone who supported my humble Lost blog, visited my site on a regular basis, commented, and put up with my outlandish theory and updates the past six years. You have all made the Lost experience that much more entertaining. Without you, I probably would not have continued the updates. (Some may think that would have been a good thing) And with that,...

LURKING, STILL LOST ON THE GRASSY KNOLL

  1. It is just such a shame the I stopped watching Lost after the first twelve months or so. Seem like there was a glitch with the local cable service. After that I was really lost and could not catch up with whatever was going on. Not a bad concept but please bring back Captain Kirk and all be forgotten and forgiven :)

  2. Nice touch with the eye closing just like your lost blog. I'm gonna miss this part, your zany theories, I liked the Skull island one a lot. What are you gonna do now?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Wait, I just clicked on the picture at the top of this, and the grassy knoll institute is the number one search result for lost secrets. Your first out of 27 million. Now that is impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I thought the ending sucked. purgatory, wtf? They said it wasn't purgatory and then they get backed into a corner introducing all this crazy shit and they can't explain everything so they take the chicken shit way out and lie.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It is a shame you stopped watching. A worse shame that your cable provider is so inept that they couldn't get you up and running after so long. Unless your cable provider is Dharma Cable TV.

  6. You know, Patty, (My loving wife) actually guessed the Lost secret way back in 2006 in this update.

Slade, yes, my wife feels they are in Purgatory, and with each death, that person is being released from Purgatory to go to heaven. After they have attoned themselves……

  7. Very impressive. But I am not a Jedi yet....

Yes, Lost has brought this blog many page views and surfers.

  8. I don't think the ending sucked. Just wans't as good as it could have been. I believe the writers copped out with the Purgatory scenario. And people thought my virtual reality scenario was lame.

    ReplyDelete
  9. omg! you watched all 5 seasons and you have these questions????
Flash sideways= pergatory (BUT ONLY jack's story)
    Island=really happened.

    >>how could Aaron also be born off the island, and live with Kate off the island if he was already born on the island, and in fact, born in Purgatory? <<
Aaron was taken off the island. Kate went back without him. Everything that happened on the island really happened. The Island was NOT purgatory. The flash sideways was Jack's own story and purgatory.

In the end, Kate, Claire (and others) flew off the island in to live out the rest of their lives...Until they met up again in the timeless place. They might've died after him- that's what christian shepherd told Jack.

  11. I feel lied to by the writers. They said that it was a guarantee that the lost crew were not dead and not in purgatory. And then the last five minutes of the show they show them all dead and in purgatory. Did I like the ending. Not at all. I felt lied to, cheated, duped. Maybe since after the pilot millions of people were saying that they were in purgatory guessing their well guarded secret that they had no other choice but to lie to millions of loyal fans for six years.

    ReplyDelete
  12. slub, what was happening on the island is what was real. Jacks struggle on the island. The side flashes meant nothing, as well as the flash backs and forwards.

If the sideways was only Jacks purgatory, then why go through all the motions to show everyone else. Why not just concentrate on Jack.

Claire gave birth on and off the island. If she was already dead, how did she give birth? Either on or off. LOTGK is right when he said the baby was born in purgatory.

And didn't Jack make Hurley just like him. Jacob lived thousands of years, why wouldn't Hurley and with MIB gone, and all the other nasty people gone, he could live for thousands of years. Why was Hurley in the church before Jack.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If so, Claire gave birth on the island. She also gave birth off the island. In both versions she was dead. So the baby was born in purgatory. That means the baby had to be dead to be in purgatory. You can't have both.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Slub, can't let this go. You say that what happened on the island really happened. Thats bull. There is no time travel, or smoke monster, and no one can survive a hydrogen bomb explosion. But the writers want you to believe what happened on the island was real and what was in the side flash was purgatory. Even when the writers said they were not dead and not in purgatory. They were all dead and were all in purgatory. They lied.

    ReplyDelete
  15. After lots of thinking, I figured it out.

You are and were 100% correct all along.

The writers have also NEVER lied to the viewers.

Why do we all think they are in purgatory/heaven/hell? Because of one character, Christian Shepard, a church, and a light? Yet, all of these questions still remain?

I don't think it's over. There will be for sure be a movie. In the movie, there will be some of the events that take place before the church occur, like Hurley, Ben, etc.

By the end of the movie, we will in fact see them emerge from virtual reality.

Why does this make sense? In this way, they can explain all of the answers, they can make more money, and even tie it into ANOTHER show or movie where a different experiment will take place on a different cast of characters.

It may be a while before we come to see the truth. But it will be revealed.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Slub,
If you search the USA Today archives, you will see that Cuse and Lindelof both stated that the characters are not dead. But in the finale, they are. A prerequisite to being in Purgatory is that you have to be dead. This tells me the writers lied to the viewers. Let it be on the island, or the flash forward, back, or sideways flash, the characters were dead.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lisaf, the only problem with that is, the writers stated in 2004 that the characters were NOT dead. So by being alive, they could not be in purgatory, either on the island or any flash scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lost Fan, you were lied to by the writers. Cuse and Lindelof stated they were not dead. You have to be dead to be in Purgatory.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Maybe on the DVD they will have outtakes and deleted scenes, to explain where Walt went. And the children. Perhaps even have official alternate endings.

    My Lost ending was this.....

As an added bonus, the Grassy Knoll Institute will now reveal the last scene of the series finale at the end of season four. (Edit, season Six)

The scene opens as if a flash back to one of the survivors back stories before the crash. Government men in suits talking in groups, low tone speech loud enough to hear but not enough to understand what is said. They are in some sort of lab, or shelter.

The government men are talking to an unseen client. From their gestures and tone, it appears to be an intense negotiation of some sort. Several survivors names are over heard in the conversation, Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Jin, and Hurley, as the same government men input figures into a laptop computer.

The camera pans over and zooms on to the laptop screen. The header of the document is:

    CASE STUDY # 481516.23 VOLUME 42
    STUDY COMPLETED TO SATISFACTION…..

The camera slowly pans out and then towards the right side catching a glimpse of the “Others” in the room with the government men. The camera continues to pan out widening its view on the entire room. Slowly the lighting is turned up revealing a hospital type environment complete with all the hardware one would expect to see in an emergency room.

The camera shifts angles and begins to ascend to the ceiling displaying hundreds of cryogenic chambers. The camera pans in further revealing Jack laying in stasis with electrodes wired to his body. Kate then comes into view. Then Hurley, Sawyer, Jin, and the rest of the survivors all hooked up identical as Jack. A video display comes into view and for a few seconds, you see the group on the island, gathered together, at night, around a blazing fire. Jack and Kate are smiling and talking to each other. The camera then jerks back to the cryo pods holding Jack and Kate.

The conversation of the government men and the “Others” are now more clear and we see a small titanium box and blueprint type documents being slid on the table over to the government men. The “Others” say: “As promised, here is our part of the bargain. This is the next design level. You will find the schematics quite clear and precise. When can we expect our next shipment?”

Government men: “Flight 427 from London to Sydney meets your requirements. It departs at 1:08 pm.”

The camera iris begins to close while quickly panning and rising out of the room revealing for a split second the “Others”, a humanoid alien race conversing with the government agents. The camera continues its ascent skyward revealing the structure they are in, then the island, the ocean, the continents, the planet, solar system, and pans into oblivion.

The “LOST” logo and end music cues and that my friends is how the series ends.

See you in another life brother....

  21. The problem with the finale was they spent the whole show doing exactly what they did to us for six years. They kept giving us more questions and no answers, then in the last five minutes told us what was going on. I would of rathered the whole finale or atleast the last hour, answer more questions and go beyond the gathering in the church.

    ReplyDelete
  22. there's gonna have to be a movie or spin off series to be made. too many questions left and so much money to be made. whatever happened to Abrams? he seemed like a huge part of the show at the start, used to see him as a writer in the credits and in interviews. now it's just Cuse and Lindelof. did he sell out and just concentrate on making and producing movies or was he a part of it till the end but didn't want to be in the spotlight?

    ReplyDelete
  23. lotgk, I meant that they were on the island alive, but when they started showing the flash sideways, they were showing them once they were dead (either already dead or dead in the future like Christian Shepherd said) The flash sideways was their purgatory - that is why Jack was able to have a son there and why Claire could experience birth again. You choose what makes you the happiest. That's just the only way I can feel that makes sense to me - not everyone will agree to it. I wish the writers would just come out with the explanation of it all. Thanks LOTGK for all the great recaps!! It's been great!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Maybe it wasn't Purgatory just something like it, a proving ground.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe Hurley was living on the island and something happened to him, like an accident. Jacob could die. If nothing happened to Stay Puffed (Hurley) he could have lived as long as Jacob.

Was Richard in the church at the end?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Assuming they were all alive on the island and the H-bomb was detonated then they all died. Apparently, at the point in the series when the writers made the statement they were not dead, they were not.

    ReplyDelete
  27. True, if it was Purgatory. Certainly they were dead in the "church".

To further confuse things , the writers talked about "the fluidity of time" which can mean anything.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Never trust a one-eyed Russian.

    ReplyDelete
  29. In the previous reply they were not dead should have been in quotes. Sorry I didn't mean to confuse anybody.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have always thought TV shows, dramas in particular, should have a shelf life. Too many shows start off great but after a few seasons the story lines peter out or get rehashed or so unbelievable they become unwatchable (ie. Desperate Housewives, Alias, X-Files) and lose their audience long before they are finally euthanized. Lets look at Prison Break for example, it was a brilliant idea and the first season was fantastic. The second season was good. The third season the show became a misnomer because they were on the run and out of prison, the fourth season found them back in another prison etc. etc. It was like the writers were really struggling to keep the premise going when the entire show should have ended after season two. The show would have ended on a high note instead of leaving that acrid taste of overboard (over bored) in our mouths.

When they announced that LOST would only be six seasons I was thrilled. I figured Cuse and Lindelof had a plan, they had their story line and it had a definite ending and finally there would be series that would tell a story beginning to end without having to try too hard to stretch it out. For my money LOST is the best show that has ever been on television. It was impeccably acted, casted (except Anna Lucia, I can't stand Michelle Rodriguez) and written and I stand by that. I never missed an episode, I often watched them twice. I could not have loved a series more.

Now I am left feeling like the mate of an inconsiderate premature ejaculator, unfulfilled and unsatisfied by the ending. I loved the finale right up to the part at the church. I agree with you, they copped out. Now I can understand how a show that's been cancelled might throw together an ending but this was premeditated, they knew this would be the end yet they didn't give their audience the finale we deserved. What's worse is they didn't give us the finale that they were capable of. They sold themselves short when they shortchanged us. It's just a shame really, it could have gone down as the best show in history but they tanked the ending and left too much unanswered... I don't mind filling in some blanks but they left holes big enough to drive freighters through.

They might as well have made it all a dream.

    ReplyDelete
  31. As a Roman Catholic, I understood the ending, the whole Purgatory scenario. A chance for redemption for an imperfect life. However, to other people of different faiths, I wonder how they perceived what was happening.

As an example, Roman Catholics believe Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior. As a Jewish person who Jesus is and you have a completely different interpretation.

The same can be said for Purgatory.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cuse and Lindelof said they have no plans whatsoever to make a movie or create another series around Lost.
Of course, they also stated that they were not in Purgatory nor dead. So look for the mini series in the ABC 2011 line up.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lisaf, yes, alive on the island, but dead and in Purgatory in the side flash. Either way, Cuse and Lindelof lied when they stated that the characters are not dead and in Purgatory.

And you are welcome, it has been a heck of a lot of fun the past six seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agreed, Purgatory is the Christian interpretation. Ask your Jewish friends what it was.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So very true, that is why I would have liked more information instead of a blunt ending. I read where in the DVD that Hurley and Ben's story will be fleshed out, an additional 14 minutes showing what happened to them once Jack made him the protector.

I didn't see Richard in the church. I am going to re-watch the show this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That is splitting hairs. I believe that after the pilot aired, millions of people guessed the premise correctly, (The characters were in some sort of Purgatory and were given a shot at redemption) and the writers had to lie to the viewers to assure loyalty from the viewers. Serious question to you Lost fans, and please answer as honest as you can.

If you knew the characters were dead and in Purgatory, would you have still tuned in so faithfully each week? And would you still have followed the millions of Lost secrets blogs that sprouted up?

If it were me, not so much. It would have been another River World.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I guess when you are dead, time stands still.
Apparently all those experiments Daniel Faraday was conducting meant Bumphus.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Or a writer named Cuse and Lindelof. :D

    ReplyDelete
  39. Too late. I'm Lost. :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Excellent points Ben. I was also hoping for a better ending, a better send off. I pretty much knew my theory wasn't going to be the one, seriously, aliens, but to inject the Purgatory scenario after five seasons and end with them all going into the light like Patrick Swayze did on Ghost, that was not the ending I had hoped for.

Maybe in the mini series next year they will change it up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So I guess if you lie one time, why not lie again?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Is there a Jewish equivalent?

    ReplyDelete
  43. That makes three of us.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The very first trailer for lost came on during a Monday Night Football game about 3 months before the first episode aired. I got excited about it and couldn't wait. Then the first episode premiered and I thought it was the greatest hour of non sports related television ever... But season 2 about the 4th episode or so I was sick of nothing ever happening and the show seemed to be nothing but flashbacks. Finally 1 night I said to myself 1 more flashback and I'm done... I turned it off 30 seconds later never to watch again.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Absolutely. Why do we go out and buy DVD's or books? Cause we know we're eventually gonna rewatch and reread them on occasion even though we already know the ending and in some cases even know them line for line.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey, with that one lie, ABC made millions upon millions of dollars. A second lie comes easy.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't know. I asked if they believed in a Purgatory type waiting place where you had a second chance at redemption. The answer was no.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It was sort of like you, and all of us other viewers, being in Purgatory right along with Jack and the castaways. Endlessly waiting for something to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  49. richard was not in church yet, he left island and could now grow old.then he would meet his wife and move on. hurley coould have died way after jack but would still be there before jack, why? because jack was the last to move on, he said he would save them all in series 1. he did.

    ReplyDelete
  50. the whole show and series was brilliant, what you need to ask of yourself is this question what would you like to happen when you die?
the ending was so moving and if you take the time to have followed up the mythology of the series this could answer all the " unanswered questions". with this type of ending, WHERE YOU DONT UNDERSTAND, the show lived up to it's title
    LOST.
    The Island:

It was real. Everything that happened on the island that we saw throughout the 6 seasons was real. Forget the final image of the plane crash, it was put in purposely to f*&k with people's heads and show how far the show had come. They really crashed. They really survived. They really discovered Dharma and the Others. The Island keeps the balance of good and evil in the world. It always has and always will perform that role. And the Island will always need a "Protector". Jacob wasn't the first, Hurley won't be the last. However, Jacob had to deal with a malevolent force (MIB) that his mother, nor Hurley had to deal with. He created the devil and had to find a way to kill him -- even though the rules prevented him from actually doing so.In the end, Jack got to do what he always wanted to do from the very first episode of the show: Save his fellow Lostaways. He got Kate and Sawyer off the island and he gave Hurley the purpose in life he'd always been missing. And, in Sideways world (which we'll get to next) he in fact saved everyone by helping them all move on ...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dave wrote:
But the writer’s took it even further this season by contrasting this Sideways “purgatory” with the Island itself. Remember when Michael appeared to Hurley, he said he was not allowed to leave the Island. Just like the MIB. He wasn’t allowed into this sideways world and thus, was not afforded the opportunity to move on. Why? Because he had proven himself to be unworthy with his actions on the Island. He failed the test. The others, passed. They made it into Sideways world when they died — some before Jack, some years later.

Michael proved himself unworthy on the island with his actions! Then why was Sawyer permitted to pass on, allowed into the church. He killed a man on the island, in cold blood, almost as a hired thug. I would think Michael was trying to protect his son Walt who was kidnapped any way possible. That is much more admirable than Sawyer's scenario. Yet Sawyer gets in, Michael is left to whisper on the island.

  52. Again, as a Christian, (Roman Catholic) I understand the concept of purgatory. I understood the ending of Lost, I merely felt it was a cheap ending.

However, I wonder how Atheists felt about the ending as well as other non belief in Purgatory religions.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I've been a semi follower of Lost but not a must see tv show. I bet there will be a movie, mini series or spin off show about lost next year. The money is there, the network won't walk a way from it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. thats the reason of the show's title. lost

    ReplyDelete
  55. atheist are quite happy with the ending, it just show that we move on when we are ready not when some God like figure makes it so. you dont need a faith to understand the ending.

    ReplyDelete
  56. micheal will eventually move on when his time comes. again we dont know how long sawyer as been in purgatory and amended for his sins, as there was no time in the church. same for all of them, some could have been in a lot longer than others and eventually hurley gets it all together for these people.

    ReplyDelete
  57. but just because the jewish faith says no does not mean it is not the case.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Agreed, there will be some sort of spin off, or movie.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Dave, are you speaking on behalf of the entire Atheist population? Because I was under the assumption an atheist believes that when you die, there is no bright light, there is no heaven, or hell, no God at all. When you die, you die. That is it.

I would speculate that many Atheists are very unhappy with the ending. It depicts a Christian ending, something Atheists do not believe in, and some defend against to the bitter end.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sawyer killed a man in cold blood on the island. How did that prove him worthy to move on.

Michael killed two women on the island to protect his son who was kidnapped. Why is not worthy and Sawyer was.

It doesn't matter if they spent 10 years or 10,000 years on the island. Both murdered, one was allowed, one denied.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Dave, it's not a matter of right or wrong, (That's like telling someone that their faith is the only true religion and all the others are wrong)it's a matter of the ending being geared toward a Christian belief system that others would not understand.

    ReplyDelete
  62. as a atheist, it can depict any faiths ending, it was a t.v. show that in this paticular case ended as it did. with your argument the show for atheists would just end and no questions asked. now that would be boring. remember it was a show for everyone to watch and enjoy. you can watch a man being killed or a woman on a film.dead and thats it for atheists, but what if the film portrayed jesus or joan of arc, then even atheist want a background story and thats what lost was a story.

    ReplyDelete
  63. it did not prove him worthy, but we dont know how long he was in purgatory and what he did to change if he had to. micheal will eventually join the others when his time is right, thats the whole point. micheal was only denied for now because he had no one to move on with, maybe when walt dies they will be together and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  64. there as to be some follow up, and maybe the writers are reading all our comments and making the show right now.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Dave, answer my question, do you speak for entire Atheist population? I don't think you do. If I were an Atheist, I would think I would be disappointed with the ending, a Christian ending, if i were an Atheist.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Mt point exactly. It did not prove him worthy. However, sawyer did go through while Michael did not. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I believe the writers already have something in the wings for a Lost reprise. I said expect to see it in 2011.

    ReplyDelete
  68. As an atheist, I disliked the ending very much...the ending of the show, much like the "going to heaven" ending that believers in real life are relying on, seems a little too much like wishful thinking. But I think even if I was a religious guy, I would've been disappointed in such an obviously lazy ending.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I liked Michael a lot, but there were alway rumblings that the actor, Harold, was kind of a malcontent. He was at least as much of a hero as Jack in the first season, and I think he would've been in the church is the actor who played him hadn't been a dick.

    ReplyDelete
  70. *if the actor...

    ReplyDelete
  71. sorry no I dont speak for them all, but what I do say is that we are capable of watching a t.v. show's ending which shows a religious belief. but not to get into a religious war, most modern faiths are based on earlier beliefs like sumerian or mesopotamian, well before catholic or christian and egyptian.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No Dave, what you said was,
"atheist are quite happy with the ending, it just show that we move on when we are ready not when some God like figure makes it so. you dont need a faith to understand the ending."

And I stated that I believe that atheists and people from religions that do not believe in Purgatory, were not satisfied with the ending.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yetti, Dave has already spoken for you, he said you were quite happy with the ending.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yes, Michael was a hero in season one, he was the one that organized the boat making, and he was the protector of his son Walt. That had to account for something. At least as much as Sawyer murdering a man in cold blood.

    ReplyDelete
  75. so just because you are catholic means you can understand the ending but some one with no belief in God cannot. how good of you. when I said atheists I was stating the fact that my colleagues were happy with the end of a great Fantasy t.v. show. get a grip!!! it wasn't real. but saying that, the show ending does not mention heaven, it does not show heaven, it shows a " dead" man open a door to a bright light. religious people saw heaven..others maybe saw the island's white light taking all of them on another journey in time, space, etc. or maybe the centre of the universe. get it?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Nope, thats not what I said. I said that Lost ended with a Christian type scenario. A type of Purgatory that many faiths do not belief in.

You said Atheists were good with the ending. And clearly, some of them are not.

We all know the show was not real, or based on a true story. Now you are grasping at straws.

Again, I stated that the ending had a Christian scenario. Christian Shephard leading his people to heaven. All meeting in the church. Etc. You don't get it.

You should take the writers advice, it's time to let go now.

    ReplyDelete
  77. not clutching at any straws. the "church" was eloise's building with the lamp underneath. it did not at any time mention christian shepard leading his people to heaven, he was a man who walked through the doorway into a bright light. if you perceive that as a christian sceniro, thats ok.
but again don't preach to others that it was christian. the church window shows six differing religious signs for differing faiths all seem to have belief in some sort of after life. but what if the light was just that light... no God, nothingness
    lost!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Dave, I am not, nor ever did preach to anyone, on or off the net. It is well accepted that the Lost ending was a Christian theme. Like it or not, it was.

Hell, I wish the light was the hatchway leading to an alien spacecraft. Then my theory would have been right.

Again Dave, it's time to let go. We're a week removed from the series finale.

    ReplyDelete
  79. We need a new show!!!!

  80. We could all discuss the Omen trilogy.

    ReplyDelete
  81. the omen films? the books are better and theres 5 in the series , unless I missed one, leading up to the year 2000 and beyond, very much a sense of revelations. the forth film was a girl and nowt to do with the book series.

    ReplyDelete
  82. As long as it doesn't last 6 years.....

    ReplyDelete
  83. How about Kate on Craig Ferguson tonight... She kept saying she was going to take off her dress

    ReplyDelete
  84. The question is, will people still be talking about the lost finale next year like people talked about the MASH finale.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Mash was one of the top watched finales of all time. Lost, well, not so much. However, Cuse and Lindelof still have a few secrets up their sleeve and will slowly reveal them later on this year to create buzz for Lost.

    ReplyDelete
  86. MASH also went off the air when I and everyone I knew only had about 12 channels.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The show was about nothing. It was a lie.

The problem now, how to cope with this big lie?

Some will look at the clouds and see angels and some will see clouds.

For those of you with Stockholm syndrome, I can only say... "You were lied to, and now you like it" ???

I find it very sad that our culture is rewarding lies and people in this blog are celebrating it like it's this grand
new age awakening of the afterlife with special insight from their shaman Cuse and Lindelof.

Persons Unknown, LOTGK can you tell us the ending to that so I don't have to watch more crap?

    ReplyDelete
  88. da man the choice is yours, watch or do not watch. in real life we dont get the true answers we like, t.v. reflects true life in various forms. do you watch say " Star Trek" which is a brill show but a big lie as it is sci fi not real, do you watch say " x-files" the truth is out there? real or a lie or a t.v. show.
basically if the lost writers "lied" so what its their show their story. they covered all the bases so that the full show could be seen. because of so many fans theories on chat rooms etc. any shows ending could be spoilt by a fan getting too close to the actual finale.
its like watching the film Titanic oh it sinks! yes we know but you still want to see the film.
dooooo sorry if spoilt ending if you haven't seen Titanic.!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. LOTGK the pilot for "unknown persons" was pretty good. And it seems to fit your VR theory. Maybe it can be our new lost.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Exactly. The show is just a show even if the finale was a little dissapointing. From the acting the music down to the landscape and scenery this show was brilliantly written. Why else would we still be bloging about 2 weeks later? I've already started watching it again. Anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Excellent point. Today, we have many more media outlets to choose from, including this here internet thingy.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Perhaps I should write an alternate ending beginning at the church gathering, perhaps with Michael and Eko breaking in, or Ben Linus locking the doors and torching the place, it may be quite fun. Yes, I think I will do that.

  93. What say ye all, should we explore the Persons Unknown theme?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Technically, the Titanic didn't sink. It was a government plot to extract the uranium 236 from the hull of the ship for future nuclear testing. But that's another theory. Another section.....

    ReplyDelete
  95. I have all 5 season on DVD, and several episodes of season six on DVR. Perhaps one day I will re-watch. Not for awhile though.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Have you watched the pilot?

    ReplyDelete
  97. It sure seemed like when Locke said "It Worked!" upon waking up in the recovery room meant that MIB had successfully crossed over into the islandless land.

    ReplyDelete
  98. That would be cool. Write another alternate ending, except the virtual reality ending, add some bizarre crazy shit. I'll start it off for you.
It was a dark and stormy night in the church....

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yes I have and it was OK. I saw several show themes involved. I believe they are all in a virtual reality laboratory being studied by a group of aliens to learn if humanity is worth saving.
    :D

    ReplyDelete
  100. Or it meant the surgery worked.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Max, I was mulling that idea around a bit. I did write an alternate ending to the show that gave way to a portal of a new series. An interactive series. I was thinking of writing the first chapter, aptly called, "I Am An Island" by Simon and Garfunkel.
It deals with what happens exactly at the end of Lost, as the door opens and Christian Shephard walks through the blinding white light.
My constant, Ben Linus always lies, and he is a bad man.
As the story line progresses, audience participation would be a key element, suggesting plot lines, story twists, even new characters.

What does every think of that?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Yeah I kinda figured you would take that route. Personally I think they are all dead, and St. Peter is watching the cameras. This abandoned town is like where you go before you are judged.

I am excited to learn more about the Bell-hop. This is not his first rodeo.

I think that was the boring answer

    ReplyDelete
  104. I think we got a show here, isn't anyone interested.....

    ReplyDelete
  105. Alas, also the correct one. :(

    ReplyDelete
  106. I watched the pilot and the second episode. I struggle to stay interested. Hopefully, week three will be an improvement.

    ReplyDelete
  107. 4th show was good.

    What is the theory LOTGK?

    ReplyDelete
  108. I'll be posting my update soon, hopefully by Wednesday.

Seriously, the show is not keeping my interest.

    ReplyDelete
  109. What!!!!!!! You aren't giving it a chance.. The showing is getting good..

    ReplyDelete
  110. Is any other show even worth watching or reviewing? This one seems to be the only one worthy of LOTGK updates.

It's got outsiders, trapped people, gov men, maybe aliens, it's certainly a test of some sort, what's is all about LOTGK, does this one have you stumped? Are they all in on it but the mother? Is it a game show for the super elite?

    ReplyDelete
  111. what about these previews you see on NBC called "the event" that might be something to check out. they never say when it's gonna air though.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yes, I am giving it a chance. In fact, in my latest update, I reveal my theory fully.

    ReplyDelete
  113. All is revealed in my latest update, episode four. Will the real Martian please stand up.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Yes, saw a few blurbs about it, anyone else seen them?

    ReplyDelete
  115. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

  116. In about 9 months, it wi;; be 20 years when LOST aired its first episode. And we are still waiting for the real answers. Real Ending. Oh well.
