Madsen Donuts – Geneva On The Lake

Madsen Donuts
Madsen Donuts: Iconic shop on the strip located at Geneva On the Lake, Ohio. The donut shop has been opened since 1938 serving fresh good tasting donuts and pastries daily. As you can see, the donuts come in a standard cardboard box sized to accommodate a dozen donuts.

Madsen Dozen Donuts
After a long day of fun and relaxation at Geneva On The Lake, it was time to return to reality. Before we began our journey home to Youngstown, Patty bought an assorted dozen donuts from Madsen Donuts to bring home. Of course, I had the cake donut with the chocolate frosting. Of course the donut was fresh and delicious. It was so good, I had to have another.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 4.5 out of 5 shots and recommends Madsen Donuts for dinner.

Back home in the USA our favorite doughnut shop had the buttermilk type that were a little plain but I loved them. The had a little handle to hold on to while we were dunking them in coffee or milk. Ah memories but you still have your shop while mine is thousands of miles away!

I remember the handles on the donuts. Dunkin Donuts had them as well as Plaza Donuts.

I did that exact same thing when Patty showed me the donuts.

I don’t see any jelly donuts in that box… Or long johns… Or the tasty yet elusive apple fritter…

Yes, the jelly donut, a favorite, but Patty selected this dozen. She did good, my cake donut with chocolate was present.

American-style donuts. Yet another thing we don’t have here in Sweden

What kind of donuts do you have in Sweden?

They don’t have a hole in the middle, are smaller and with less filling. And less taste, feels like it.

We have those donut types also in the states. They are the store bought brand.

My grandparents started Madsen Donuts way back when. Thanks to the Biery family for keeping it going.

When we were kids my family would come over from Painesville a couple of times a week. Granpa would give us dimes to go up the street and play pinball. We would eat a few donuts too. Then dad would come up to get us and go behind the counter and give us more donuts and box some up. Then we would eat some on the way home. Then we would get home and the donut eating would really begin.

Is Madsen Donuts the longest existing donut shop in America in the same location (taking into account the summer only season)?

Could be. Thanks again to the Biery’s.

We visit Geneva-On-The-Lake at least several times a year and we always stop at Madsen for the ride home. They rarely back it back to Youngstown.
