Side Walk Cafe - Ober Gatlinburg

Ober Gatlinburg Sidewalk Cafe
The city of Gatlinburg, Tennessee is nestled at the foothills of the great Smoky Mountains. There are an endless number of restaurants to tempt your appetite. But there's more. Take a right hand turn on Ski Mountain road and it will twist you through the mountains and take you to the top where Ober Gatlinburg stands.

At the top of the mountain sits of course many elaborate ski slopes but also a small amusement park, an ice rink, carnival games, a black bear habitat, and several food stands and restaurants.

The Side Walk Cafe over looks the ice skating rink with several retail shops dotting it's surroundings. We had just spent several hours at the amusement park and came inside for a quick bite.
Ober Fries And Corn Dog
Since we were there in the off season, it was not very crowded so there was no line and placed our order. I ordered the corn dog and fries. You are looking at $6 dollars of food here. The corn dog was readily available but the fries were cooking in the fryer. My order was called out in a matter of minutes.

The corn dog was standard fare as corn dogs go. Well cooked, fresh, hot, and good taste. The fries were of fresh cut variety but as you can see, not to plentiful. However, they were fresh, well cooked, and hot and tasted good. It was a good fast food meal that filled me up and got us on our way to our next Ober Gatlinburg adventure.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 3.25 out of 5 shots and recommends the Side Walk Cafe in Ober Gatlinburg for lunch and dinner.

Ober Gatlinburg Sidewalk Cafe - Cheese Pizza

Ober Gatlinburg Pizza
Gatlinburg has an amusement park at the top of the Smoky Mountains called Ober Gatlinburg. Plenty of excitement with the Ober Slide, Chair lift, Cyclone water slide, and assorted other water slides and attractions.

There is an inside ice skating rink with plenty of shops and vendors. We stopped at the Pizza station. We ordered a large pizza with pepperoni on half. The clerk said it would be about 20 minutes.

In about 20 minutes, our order number was called and I went to pick up the pizza. Of course it was hot, it just came out of the oven. But the cheese wasn't completed melted. And the crust, well, it had a hint of cardboard flavor. The rest of the pizza was OK at best. I do believe it was a frozen pizza merely heated up.

The cost was $12 dollars without drinks, both diet cokes. Ober Gatlinburg is a fun place to be at, but the food choices on top of the mountain at not so good.

The Grassy Knoll Diner scores 2.5 out of 5 shots and barely recommends Ober Gatlinburg Pizza for dinner.

That pizza looks fake. Like from a tv commercial.

  2. LOTGK said

It wasn’t fake, but had very little taste. It was edible though, and easy access so I gave it a passing grade.

  3. Green Hood said

I think I would have passed. Dont they have a hamburger shop up there.

  4. Gumby said

Pass. I think you created a new flavor. Cardboard flavored pizza.

20 mins and 12 dollars? No way!
Btw, you won’t believe me but I believe that the country with best pizzas is… Sweden! I’ve tried pizza in most of European countries, as well as in U.S. and Canada and it just can’t be compared. Come over and find out! ;)

  8. LOTGK said

in fact, Patty and I are preplanning a trip to Ireland next year.

  9. Bitzky said

Oh oh oh! Who knows, I just might be in Ireland at the time. Poke me when you find out the dates :)

You betcha I will. We’re hoping for September of 2010. Going to see my family there for a few days and then the rest will be sightseeing.

Ober Gatlinburg Sno Cone (Cherry Flavored)

At the top of the Smoky mountains lies a cozy little amusement park called Ober Gatlinburg. Plenty of rides to have fun including the Alpine slide and the Go-Karts, but today's post is all about the cherry. As in flavor. Cherry flavored sno-cones.The beauty above hit the spot on a warm summer day. The shaved ice was not clumped in a big chunk, and there was an ample amount of cherry syrup to give the sno-cone great flavoring. All in all, a pleasant experience.

The cost is the only drawback. Being on top of the mountain, you are literally a captured audience. You either pay the price, or you go thirsty. I opted in and shelled out $3.00 for this sno-cone. (Ahh yes, I remember as a little kid buying sno cones for a nickel at Idora Park and Geneva on the Lake.)

Ober Gatlinburg cherry sno-cones receives 2.75 shots out of 5 and recommends them on hot summer days.
