Lost Update - Season Six - 03/09/2010
Well the dawn was coming,
heard him ringing on my bell.
He said, ``My name's the teacher,
that is what I call myself.
And I have a lesson
that I must impart to you.
It's an old expression
but I must insist it's true.
Jump up, look around,
find yourself some fun,
no sense in sitting there hating everyone.
No man's an island and his castle isn't home,
the nest is for nothing when the bird has flown.''
So I took a journey,
threw my world into the sea.
With me went the teacher
who found fun instead of me.
Hey man, what's the plan, what was that you said?
Sun-tanned, drink in hand, lying there in bed.
I try to socialize but I can't seem to find
what I was looking for, got something on my mind.
Then the teacher told me
it had been a lot of fun.
Thanked me for his ticket
and all that I had done.
Hey man, what's the plan, what was that you said?
Sun-tanned, drink in hand, lying there in bed.
I try to socialize but I can't seem to find
what I was looking for, got something on my mind.
Lucifer was one of the most beautiful angels in all of heaven. So much so that he believed he could rival the Lord and plotted against him with a band of other recruited angels. God banished Lucifer to the pits of Hell for all eternity and turned him into an ugly offensive beast. Ever since the dawn of time Lucifer has been scheming to break free from Hell and return to Heaven to claim what we most desired. The kingdom of Heaven.
Throughout history, there are stories of great men and women being tempted by Lucifer during their time of weakness. Lucifer would promise what they so desired most. (Money, power, love, revenge) Some resisted, some did not. Even Jesus himself was tempted by Lucifer while he fasted in the desert for 40 days. Lucifer mocked Jesus telling him to rise up and end his own suffering and take a drink of water and to strike down the Roman guard readying to crucify him. Jesus resisted.
I'm telling you this bible story because it runs parallel with the last several episodes of Lost. MIB is Lucifer, the angel cast out of Heaven into the pits of Hell. (The island) He recruits an army of followers to overthrow the temple, (Heaven) leaving all others dead. He promises candidates what they so most desire to gain their allegiance. He even mocks Jacob, (Jesus) claiming what he does is a waste of time. And why does MIB (Lucifer) do all this? To get off the island.
There is your shout out to all the religion theorists, believing that the castaways are all dead, or in purgatory, or hell and need to prove themselves for redemption to move on.
However, that isn't what's happening on the island. My theory is far from this theory. Although, it can be easily incorporated as one of the many variables and scenario's being simultaneously being played out on the island.
Just what is the Grassy Knoll Institutes Lost theory….I’ve been waiting since Genesis to tell you…..
Although it appears the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 are on a tropical island, they are being deceived. There is no island. The survivors are in a virtual reality laboratory. All the castaways are interconnected to one another sharing each others thoughts, memories, and feelings. While in this virtual reality laboratory, a battery of physical and mental experiments are performed on them. And who is running these experiments? As Juliet stated, the Aliens of course.
Tonight's episode is a continuation of the final conflict, an epic battle between good and evil. The Rapture comes to mind here, (Yet another bible reference) where the line is drawn in the sand. The good on the right, the evil on the left. How you choose is critical to your human life and your spiritual soul. Case in point, when MIB entered the temple as smoky. He killed all those who opposed him and gathered the rest as reluctant followers.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, the good side of the island, Llana, Ben, Sun, Lapedus, Miles, Hurley, Jack, and Richard were setting up camp at the site of the original crash of Oceanic 815.
Folks, this is all an experiment, a test of human nature. Conducted under the shroud of virtual reality. Unwilling and unknowing participants believing what they see and fell is real. In essence, a perfect laboratory where exact data can be recorded and studied. In this scenario, drawing from deep rooted religious beliefs, God, Lucifer, heaven, Hell, the after life, the castaways are pitted against each other in a battle of good and evil. On one side, MIB, (Lucifer) will take the charge against the good (Followers of Jacob) in a winner take all struggle to the death.
Imagine if you will a young adult playing Xbox 360. After playing the same game for awhile, he becomes good at the game, he adapts to the surroundings, anticipates the computers next move, and easily defeats the game. However, when he reloads the game and dials the skill level up a notch, the game becomes much harder, with more surprises. The castaways have been in this continuous loop for a long time. They know how to play the game. Case in point. Jack with Richard while the fuse is burning toward the dynamite. He tells Richard he will not die. He knows the game. He sees the end game. He knows this is not how it ends.
The virtual reality tests have conditioned the castaways readying them for this final epic battle. Each scenario previous was dialed up a notch until they are now all at expert level. What comes next is pure human instinct. Survival. At what cost! Will the castaways murder in cold blood to survive? Will they murder loved ones in order to stay alive? That is the end game folks. Level 9, and the ones who survive, win the game.
Tidbits From Tonight's Episode:
* Ben teaches about Elba, the island Napolean was banished to after the war. He kept the title of Emperor but without power, titles meant nothing.
*Sun is a candidate.
* Miles gives up Ben to Llana stating Ben killed Jacob.
* Llana is pissed. Chains Ben to the ground and makes him dig his own grave.
* Richard tells Jack he was touched by Jacob and received a great gift.
* He tells Jack that he needs to go and die. Runs off into the jungle.
* Richard tells Jack he cannot kill himself. Exactly what happened to Michael. Michael tried to kill himself many times but always failed.
* Richard is dejected, said he followed Jacob for many many years. That jacob told him he had a plan, and that richard fit into the plan. That things were happening for a reason. But now Jacob is dead and his life is useless.
* Jack lights the dynamite, telling Hurley, if he wants to die, so be it.
* The fuse burns out just as Jack had predicted earlier.
* MIB frees Ben, tells him to come to the Hydra station.
* MIB tells Ben to shoot Llana with the rifle. He does not.
* All Ben wants is to be loved..... And to have all the power of the island once again.
* Ben in his sideways flash, does not betray Alex as he had on the island. Instead, he changes her fate, and his, for the good.
* The sub arrives, Widmore looks pissed.
Until next week, Get Lost!
LURKING, STILL LOST ON THE GRASSY KNOLL
I'm first. I'm with you on the parallel of Lucifer being banished to hell and him being MIB. Even the evil looks he gives, makes you think its the devil.
ReplyDeleteBut if it all boils down to religion, heaven and hell, what religion does ABC base the show on? Christian? Bhudda? Mohammed? Allah? God? Jesus? Flying Spaghetti Monster? If all the castaways were of one faith, then I could see how religious faith could have ahand in the fate of the castaways. But for those not of the same faith to be tossed in just because they had the unfortunate luck to be on the plane, well, that's just unfair, and mean, and very un-Godlike.
ReplyDeleteGood catch on Michael not being able to kill himself just like Richard. Does that mean Michael was a candidate? And Llana said there were six left. who are they?
ReplyDeleteJack, Hurley, Kwon, Sawyer, Kate, Rose.
A woman can't be a candidate... End of story..
ReplyDeleteNext... Ben knows what is going on still. Ben still can't be trusted. Ben has known all along that Jacob was looking for a replacement. His bitterness is because he was never considered. Did you see his face while he was talking to Lapedus? Ben will try to kill Lapedus in the near future. Because he thinks Lapedus is a candidate.
One more thing....... Who knows how many religions exist? Let's make it easy, say 1,000 religions exist. If all religions believe different things, then only one can be accurate. So out of the 1,000 different religions, 999 of them are wrong.
ReplyDeleteAll the castaways are almost dead my friends and lost somewhere between Heavan and Hell.... The only chance to get to the promise land is to pick the right god to believe in. That's what is going on. I am also willing to bet that Jacob and MIB aren't the only ones that are "godlike." I think we will be introduced to one more before this is over.
With Jacob and MIB in supernatural form who will tell their story to the world? The castaways will. Sort of like the disciples. In what form will they tell the story. Maybe a book, sorta like the Bible. Wasn't the poster for this season a immitation of the last supper?
ReplyDeleteHe rejected MIB's offer to control the island once again when they all left. Ben has another plan, he knows what is going down.
ReplyDeleteBut what if my religion doesn't believe in the god and devil and heaven and hell dogma that is on display on Lost? Does that mean that by default they are bad people and destined for hell? I don't think so, no god is that ruthless.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way the writers or the network will allow one true religion to be showcased as the only hope for eternal salvation. Not gonna happen. I can already see the zealots picketing outside the home office at ABC. For them to come out and say that one specific religion out of thousands is the only one to reach salvation, that makes it sound a lot like Nazi state.
ReplyDeleteMy take after catching up on the past seasons. I agree that the losties are being tested and maybe even experimented on. I agree that a line has been drawn between good and evil and that each member must choose. But why. I think so they can weed out who stays and who goes. Look at Widmore, he was banished from the island and has been trying to get back ever since. And he arrived in a submarine last night.
ReplyDeleteLost does follow the Christ's story pretty close. Jacob dies for the island people's sins. He searches our disciples to spread his word. MIB could be the Romans who have him killed. Jacob rises from the dead and visits his disciples just like Christ did. Saying that, it is too obvious to be the explanation. We saw from the very beginning of the series all the religious icons and tie ins. This is a red herring. It is a blind alley that leads to nowhere. To take us all off tract. A deception. The real secret is still out there.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point. That would so politically incorrect and a PR nightmare for a television network to claim that one specific religion is the true religion and the path to salvation or heaven.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I meant to say,
ReplyDeleteThat would be so politically incorrect...
Don't be a MCP. Male Chauvinist Pig. Explain why women can't be considered a candidate?
ReplyDeleteWhat if some of the castaways are Scientologists? Will the surprise season finale have Tom Cruise pop out from under a rock and demand that you follow the teachings of a deceased science fiction writer?
ReplyDeleteAcyaully, that would be an awesome ending.... :)
Thats not to far off. Scientology is all about science fiction, candidates trying to climb the ladder of salvation.
ReplyDeleteWho really knows what the requirements are for a candidate. Some were certainly bad people but were considered a candidate.
ReplyDeleteBen has been on the island for a long time. He knows all the hiding places. He knows all about MIB and Jacob, and Richard. It's in Bens make up to be in control. If killing people needs to be done to get what he wants, then so be it. Just ask his father about that.
ReplyDeleteSeveral catches there. Just who is the good and who is the evil one? Don't count on Jacob being the good guy.
ReplyDeleteConcerning the religion comparison. Catholics believe that you must confess your sins to your priest so he may absolve you of your sins. If you die with a mortal sin on your soul, you go directly to Hell. No matter what heroic deeds you perform. So if there are any Catholics on the island, they are already doomed to hell no matter what happens. Unless a Catholic priest suddenly appears and starts hearing confession.
Or, look at it this way. Two scientists tired of experimenting on the same subjects over and over again. One is fed up and wahts the tests to end so he can go home. The other wants to stay and continue until they get it right.
ReplyDeleteI still think Ben is in control. I think he knew MIB would force him to kill Jacob. Perhaps that is exactly what was needed for Ben to regain control.
ReplyDeleteExactly! That is why I don't think the writers are going to go that way.
ReplyDeleteVery good point. The network and the writers would be in a PR shit storm if they revealed that one religion was the only way for salvation.
ReplyDeleteGo one step further. Virtual reality explains every thing that is going on and off the island.
ReplyDeleteI picked up on this straight away. I posted a photo of the Lost castaways sitting around a table depicting the Last Supper in this years Season Six Preview. They really piled on the religious aspect the past few weeks. I still feel my VR theory has more merit.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteI also ask why couldn't they be considered?
ReplyDeleteAnd they could all be on Oprah after wards.
ReplyDelete:D
ReplyDeleteThe religious overtones have been in the show since day one. What you are forgetting is that we are talking about a Sci-Fi show...it doesn't have to be 1 religion or another. It can be a mix...did anyone picket the Wachowski brothers, Lucas, etc...no. The Wachowski's laid it on thick, Neo dies comes back, the latter two films were all about Eastern religions. Lucas could not have been more Kabalistic in his definition of the Force...well except for the stupid midichloriens thing. The bottom line is religion is all around us in all of our modern mythology, LOST is no exception...it is a morality case study.
ReplyDeleteAnd, it will end with Jack and Sawyer alone on the Island. Good vs. Evil. God vs. Devil. Christ vs. Anti-Christ. No one will picket because of religion. We may picket cuz the ending sucks, or falls short of our blown up expectations...but that is it.
And if it is VR by aliens...I'll be a bit let down, but that is just me, I know LOTGK will have a huge Shit-eating-grin for months...and he should.
It would appear that right now there are only two strong theories on Lost. The religious theory, that the castaways are in some sort of Limbo, or Purgatory, and are fighting for their chance to ascend into Heaven.
ReplyDeleteAnd my theory. As Juliet stated, the Aliens of course.
my point is, I think the writers are poking fun at religion. I think they want us to see how silly THEY think religion is....
ReplyDeleteToo much for the female sex to handle. What would happen to the island when it was that time of the month?? Or worse what would happen to the island when the female in control reaches menopause??? Something as important as the island could not be trusted in the hands of such an unstable creation...
ReplyDeleteok let me ask you something maybe you guys could answer where is walt i believe walt aaron and the kwon baby have more to do with it then they are telling us what you think? ok all this crazy stuff going on where is rose and bernard people running up and down the island and no one sees them did they die when they went back in time and they are the adam and eve in the cave hurley refound acouple episodes ago!!!! hey what happened to walts dog ? wheres jacks dads body?
ReplyDeleteBeen reading your posts past few weeks, season 6 is just awesome, i like your main theory aswell. but i think at the end its more to do with time travelling, fate vs. your own free will. If an event happened in the past, would you be able to change it if u were to travel back in time and create new events that would alter the future?
ReplyDeleteVery possible but what is the point to that? They must have a bigger agenda than to just make fun of the world's religious beliefs for Lost. I'm still holding onto my VR theory. It fits quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteHowever, looking at the world today and all it's problems, a world run mostly by the male population, I wouldn't mind giving the women a shot at it. they cannot do any worse than the men.
ReplyDeleteThe way the writers depicted Walt, (Special powers) he has to figure in to the end game. Since he has grown, 6 years of real life and he is not the 12 year old boy anymore, I believe Walt will make an appearance as he is today, 17-18 years old. Perhaps in a flash forward type episode.
ReplyDeleteRose and Bernard, a quirky pair for sure. They are part of the end game as well, as perhaps the new custodians of the island, perhaps the seed of the new generation of island dwellers to live on the island.
And Vincent, the dog is OK, he is alive and well. Trust me on this. ;)
If time travel is involved, then the show borders on the realm of the impossible. As we know it, time travel is against the laws of nature and physics. But with VR, we see it everyday of our lives. The concept is believable, not in the form we see today, but the capability is there. As for aliens, we as humans have been seeing them for thousands of years. Perhaps people thousands of years ago described aliens as angels for lack of a better understanding.
ReplyDeleteI have some hope for Ben after this episode. He found some redemption I think with Alex and he didn't hesitate to follow Ilana back to the beach... he has to know that will piss of MIB.
ReplyDeleteThere aren't many episodes left, i am really starting to fear they won't wrap it all up satisfactorily. If they make us wait for a feature film for all of the answers i will not be a happy Losty.
As for Fox's sexist comment, women are not the ones who seek power as a means to extend their members.
I just installed an in-wall computer in my bathroom with a pull out keyboard tray and, with all do respect, this is the first blog I read while taking a number 2. This is getting bookmarked because it will always have a place in my heart, and bathroom. :-) Thanks for the great read.
ReplyDeleteSomeone said it before,
ReplyDeleteMIB, has to have someone that follows him, or some friend before all this. they should introduce another original follower, i mean i know they say, he is evil incarnate and all that, but eh, still probs knows someone.
Maybe in the hydra station, MIB will explain some stuff, that would not be bad considering like 9 episodes left is it?!!!
widmore thing would be good, help explain the generation of people before that were on the island, maybe?? hopefullly explaing something... ANYTHING!,
maybe widmore had a way to know when jacob died, so now he pissed as fudgecakes? or... i she ere to help other one.... OooOooOoOoOo... he will defs be a jacob boy me thinks.
AND OF COURSE !!!
Desmond, i hope we do not have to wait for the last episode of lost to throw him in again!.
I was shocked as well that Ben not only helped Alex instead of himself in the sideway flash, but also that he didn't side with MIB.
ReplyDeleteI am also concerned that the lost end game will be a sort of WHAM BAM thank you mam type of ending skipping over many questions viewers want answered.
Thanks for the spam!
ReplyDeleteWith only a few more episodes left to the finale, I don't think they will be splintering any more story arcs.
ReplyDeleteThe big question here is.....
Wait for it.....
Here it comes.....
What time line of the castaways is the real one?
We are the cause of our own suffering.
ReplyDeleteLet me preface this by saying this is according to the Bible not my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWe will go to Heaven or Hell AFTER Jesus returns to judge, until then the dead "sleep". The breath, as in "the breath of life" of all living things is what returns to God. Our bodies are dust, ashes. clay.
The breath and body TOGETHER are a soul as in (108 souls were lost at sea). We do not fly around willy-nilly until we are judged.
I'm sorry to be preachy but all of this is in the Bible.
As for going to a priest for confession that is totally man made, remember Indulgences and no where to be found in the Bible.
ReplyDeleteFurther, anyone who believes in Jesus is a priest in that we allowed to talk to God through Jesus.
After we are judged and found to be worthy we will be given breath again and put on an incorruptable body.
How religion or belief has led to death and suffering and attrocity and torture, the very opposite of love.
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone who is a Democrat and believe in abortion or a Republican and believe in war call themselves Christian is beyond me.
That is a perversion of Christ's life and message.
THOU SHALL NOT KILL. It is unconditional. People dont wnat THE truth they want to make the Bible (God's Word) to conform to them, sorry it doesn't work that way according to the Bible.
Yeah i hate anything with time travel because everything can be manipulated at any time ad nauseum
ReplyDeletebut there is something else going on here and VR seems to fit.
Correct. The bible does not say you must go to mass on Sunday, nor does it state you must confess your sins to a man ordained.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't believe the lost secrets have anything to do with religion. I believe it has a lot to do with manipulation. And religion is a great way to do that.
ReplyDeleteWe'll know in 150 minutes. :D
ReplyDelete
